Who should Roeder kick out of Newcastle this summer?

Glenn Roeder has talked about removing the deadwood from the current Newcastle squad and has said that he has identified a few players who are definitely not part of his footballing plans.

Who do you think should leave Newcastle this summer?

Roeder:

“In our last two games in Alkmaar and at The Valley, I was disappointed with the attitude of two or three of our players - not all of them - when we went a goal behind.

That is something I will not accept. I know who these players are and it will not matter to me whether they have contracts or not, they will not feature in my long-term plans.”

There are a few untouchables in the Newcastle squad - Given, Martins, Parker, Milner, Solano, Taylor. Emre, Dyer, Duff and N’Zogbia are quality players as well, who Newcastle should be looking to keep.

Which Newcastle players do you think Roeder is talking about, and who do you think should leave Newcastle?

  1. The following players should be allowed to leave Newcastle:

    Luque, Babyaro, Bramble and Carr

Emre and Duff are injury prone so let them go and bring in players with a bit more heart.

  2. Get rid of them asap:
    Babayaro - too many injuries.
Luque - can’t see how he’s going to get any better.
    Carr - past it
Moore - past it and always injured
Bramble - how many chances can you give the guy????
Sibierski - done an OK job for a mid-table side. Not Champs league standard.
Bernard - what a complete waste of wages.

Give them time to prove their worth (until January):
    Ameobi, Duff, Emre, Owen

After all that, there’s not much left, is there???? Just shows how badly previous managers spent!

my thoughts on who we need to get rid of are, well for a start, if we are to ever win anything, we need to address the back 4. Titus Bramble, Craig Ramage, Craig Moore, Steven Carr, Babayaro, Oliver Bernard these players are never ever going to get us in a position where we can win things. We need to start at the back and these players are simply not good enough. We need quality, world class players. Woodgate, we should do everything possible to get him back at our club. Then we need someone to play alongside him. Anton Ferdinand, Curtis Davies, would be excellent signings in my view. Wes Brown would also be a great addition to our squad. Right back, it looks like Steven Carr is on his way, so I would probably go for Lucas Neill if West Ham do go down or Luke Young from Charlton or even try for Micah Richards. People might laugh at that, but if we are to show ambition, then these are players we need to be in for. At left back, either Wayne Bridge, Gareth Bale or Leighton Baines. In midfield, we have lacked a goalscoring midfielder since the days of robert lee. Kireo Dyer, fantastic player, but he does not score enough goals from midfield. As Emre is away in the summer, I would go for either Joey Barton or try to prise Tim Cahill away from Everton. They would guarentee us at least 10 goals from the midfield. I really hope that Damien Duff is going to come good. He has been a big dissapointement for us this season, yet we know what a good player he is as last night proved. Down the right, I do like James Milner, but he is no Aaron Lennon, so I would try and get Shaun Wright Phillips. He has pace and can cross a ball and can score goals. He would be an execellent signing. Upfront. I would go for Dean Ashton definately and also Dave Nuggent. He scored on his debut last night, although it was a tap in, you have to be in the positions to get the goals like he was, something newcastle have lacked at times. So with all this, I think we could challenge for top 5 again, although really, I would love us to be challenging Manchester United for the league like we were in the Keegan days.

    Babayaro - Nuff said
Bramble - I would cry in pure joy if we get rid of the man
Bernard - Uhm… Not a single game played in a whole season.
Luque - Nuff said. He get 50,000 a week for sitting on his ass, being pissed and dragging the team morale down.

I wanna keep Sib. He´s done a great job, and I cant see why we would let him go. If Duffer can stay fit I want him to stay. I still belive that he`s one of the best wingers in the league. If we can give the Premierships worst CB Bramble so many chances, we sure can wait a little longer for Duffer to break through. We need a quality left back, an experienced quality center back and in a perfect world another young quality striker. My suggestion/dream: LB: Bale, CB: Woodgate Striker: Nugent

  5. The following should all go
Babayro,Carr, Bramble, Moore, Bernard, Luque, Emre, Parker, Sibierski, Amiobi, Duff and of course ROEDER. Parker may be a strange choice but he and Butt cannot play in the same team and we will get some money for him. I also have reservations about Nobby. He certainly cannot play wide as his legs have gone but may be OK at full back for another season.

  6. Titus Bramble is odds on to leave - I think Roeder gave him a (another) chance and he let him down with bad marking at the Alkmaar game and was subsequently dropped for the Charlton game.
Luque will go - but he isn’t even playing these days and maybe Craig Moore was one that Roeder was pointing the finger at - but he will also go this summer.
I’d not be too unhappy to see Carr go - but I think Roeder rates him.
It also looks as though Roeder is not impressed yet with Gooch - but he still has 8 games to impress - those performances will determine whether he makes a permanent move to Newcastle - I hope he will.

  7. I agree with all comments above, but Roeder was talking about the players whio’s heads went down during the Alkmaar game. We know Titus is on a knifes edge, but did his head drop, he nearly took a player out permanaently in the second half. Who was there who didnt show. I think Emery’s was the best New’c player when he came on in the second half. So who?!

  8. Get Rid of these non achievers…
Bramble - never been good enough, never will
Carr - a crock and finished
Luque - the tin man has more heart,
    Moore - finished
    Babayaroo - the invisible man
    Bernard - waste of wages
Ameobi - not good enough for NUFC, Chopra was better
Owen - expensive and injury prone who puts money and England before his club!
Emre - glass legs and ankles
Duff - in a word duff, a luxury passenger
Dyer - no team player and never fit, failed to deliver since Gullit signed him,
Parker - headless chicken, great at passing backwards, runing in circles and tyackling his own players. Cannot hit a barn door!

We need to rebuild the whole team as none of the above are fit to wear Black and White shirts!

  9. Aid - I agree with you - don’t know who dropped their heads - I didn’t see either of the games. Who he is talking about is a bit of a mystery to me.

  10. Get shot of ALL THE DEFENCE,save Taylor & Ramage - only youth & local pride preserves their retention. Solano’s age is beating him now, and keeping him as an ‘emergancy right back’ is backward thinking.
Duff is not interested, Emre runs around a lot - but achieves little (they might just fetch a couple of bob too)
Butt lacks the passion he showed for his previous employers. Luque’s inclusion in this list is painfully obvious.
Ameobi - just not a premier league striker.
Sadly as replacements go, the current names being touted is aiming a little high - Davis, Brown, Silvestre, Crouch, Klose, Bale, SWP, Bridge , there is not enough money to buy ‘em & Coach Roeder isnt big enough to attract ‘em - and in all honesty - does NUFC really want Anton Ferdinand a talentless, trouble maker riding the family name?

I feel we stuck with most of the dead wood for a while yet - honestly, who wants them?…now whats the season ticket hotline number again…

  11. I’d get rid off the following:

Bramble, Ramage, Carr, Bernard, Onyewu, Babayaro, Moore, Butt, Sibierski, Ameobi, Duff, Dyer

Sadly, I believe that the majority of these players will still be at St James Park next season. Bernard and Moore are the only ones I can actually see going in the summer.

Knowing Roeder, the “two or three” he’s going to get shot of will be Milner, N’Zogbia and Martins.

It’s worrying that he’s only talking about shifting 2 or 3 rather than the wholescale clearout of deadwood that this club desperately needs. If Roeder is intent, as it seems, on retaining most of the current squad it can only mean one thing…Shepherd has told him he won’t be able to sign any new players in the summer.

I fear that Milner, N’Zogbia and Martins will be sold to ensure that Shepherd’s profit based dividend in not affected by the inevitable slump in season ticket renewals.

  12. Roeder says “2 or 3 will go”. HALF THE TEAM SHOULD GO!!

Ameobi - only Championship/1st. division class.
    Carr - finished.
    Babayaro-always injured, therefore finished.
Bernard- once was our best defender, what went wrong?
Luque - heart not in it.
    Moore - finished.
    Gooch - not good enough.
Duff - heart in Eire team - not NUFC.
and last but most importantly Bramble - He has been given 8 games? He has had 5 years to prove what most know - he is rubbish.

  13. I think it amusing that so called NUFC fans and ‘experts’ are calling for so many of the team to be removed. If they are true fans they would get behind the manager and the team.
Of course never having been good enough to grace the game their limited viewing experiences make them SO much more qualified to say who should stay or go than the manager……
How about letting those in the know make the decisions, and work on being REAL fans instead of a bunch of whiners….

  14. Alan, you are saying we should be blindly ignorant about the lack of quality in players?

I don’t support booing a player on the pitch that can only lead to worse things

but the fact is, we need to get rid of players who are holding us back if we want to progress as a club

Roeder knows which players need to leave and I have full faith in him to bring in better, young replacements with a future at the club.

  15. Butt —- not good player and to slow

    Parker — no ball controle
Emre —- dus no understan the game

Luque That is a player he can score he can pass the ball
you can not judge him. Judge Roder

  16. Alan - I think the Newcastle fans have supported the team this season - and not sure we would call ourselves experts -but we really want to have a great team again.
I have great faith in Roeder.
If we can get three good defenders in the summer I think the squad might suprise a lot of people next season - not sure there’s much wrong with the midfield and strikers (Martins, Owen, Ameobi, Sibierski and young Andrew Carroll)we already have for next season.

  17. ha ha and whos going to stump up all the money we need to replace these players, come off it Dean Ashton,Shaun Wright Phillips,Anton Ferdinand, Curtis Davies.money dont grow on trees. we are nufc not chelski.yes players like Bramble, Ramage, Carr, Bernard, Onyewu, Babayaro, Moore need to go but we aint going to get much money for them.we dont need to spend millions on 1 defender to get a good player.so this is what i think,GET RID OF THE SCOUTS AT NUFC and stop letting some good players slip away then paying over the odds for them in later years.

  18. i think we should start by gettin quality coaches, physios, then start by goin 4 a ryt bk (lucas neil) centa half in a dream world woodgate bu a canit c it so sum 1 lyk (curtis davies) then a left bk (Leighton Baines)and id bring in reo cocker id get distin on a free to help bring the youngsters on. id get rid of- BRAMBLE, moore, gooch, carr, emre.

  19. well, start from the back 4 of course. i’d show the door to players like Bramble, Moore, Bernard, Babayaro, in the summer. Our defence was horrible and unreliable for many occasions. No consistancy. As for the others i’d like to give some more times plus good replacements for the above mentioned in rebuilding a great NUFC team for coming season.

  20. well, everyone on here have good points but like 1 person said it has to be the training our players are receiving, come on on paper we have one of the best teams but teams like reading, portsmouth, everton and blackburn they dont but what they do have is great team spirit and good training tactics. i agree most of the back 4 need to go i.e- Carr, Bramble, Moore and Babayaro- Players like Taylor, Gooch and Ramage i feel Can make it in the squad just give them a few new players with Premiership experience and they will hold the back 4 with more strengh, players such as Silvestre, Brown or Richards would be good signings. Why do people keep saying Woodgate he is the most injury proned player i know. Bring in Peter Crouch!!!!

  21. A few other players that would suit nufc are:

Crouch, silvestre, brown, distin, barton to replace Emre,Leighton Baines would be a good signing. Keep Gooch Onyewu, i saw him in the world cup and he is a great player even won usa player of the year award, give him a chance he will be the next sol campbell, i promise that!!! Come on the Toon!!!!

  22. I think people have been a little harsh. NUFC need to build a foundation so you can’t get rid of the whole squad and start from scratch as some people have said. All three keepers need to stay. The whole defence needs getting rid of bar Tayls and Ramage (Huntington and Edgar sent out on loan to build experience and confidence). The midfield seems pretty tight but Emre will probably leave anyway. I think Duff will prove his worth given time and Butt has been very good this season, can’t see the point of criticism aimed at him! As for strikers, I think Luque will be sold to help fund a defender. I wonder if these same people will be criticising the likes of Owen and Parker if NUFC are successful next season or whether they’ll change their tune?? Our fans are criticised by everyone else for being fickle but i can’t think why…

As for players being brought in I would suggest Bridge from Chelsea, Luke Young from Charlton and Wes Brown from Man Utd. Three English fringe players with a lot to prove and in need of first team football.

  23. Blimey…all having a right go at Shola Ameobi, Un called for. I think Shola & Obafemi up front will be amazing.

    Carr - slower than charvet

Moore - a joke of a player, perhaps he has a drink problem after all

Bramble - moments of madness ruin his game & often the scoreline

Babayaro - never ever ever been a fan of this mercanary, anything for a few quid

Bernard - fuck knows why we gave him a short deal

Onywu - Nowt better than bramble

Pattison - crapolla, god knows why he’s even played for the 1st game the ginger twat

O’Brien - very fast, give him a season at a champ club & let him back (loan only)

Luque - £40grand a week, lucky bastard i get £18grand a year & work hard for it. I even took the time to write to Alber, did he reply ? No the lazy spanish cunt.

And if Solano & French Toni really want 2 year deals…
    they should find another club.

  24. i think that newcaslte should make alot more improvements on its defence and attack.their midfield has alot of potencial, however there have not found the corect set to gel.
some of the poeple i think should leave are:
    -luque(definately)
    -bramble (definately)
    -carr
    -butt
    -ameobi(watse off time)

the poeple i think we should consider to get:
    -darren bent
    -dean aston
    -villa
    -torres
    -defo or r.keane
    -gaderner
    -clichy
    -shaun write-phillips

Outside of a couple of games under Keegan I have never seen a Newcastle team play a devestating game of fluent Football.#

This includes the 5-1 and 5- o good results against the Mancs and covers a period from 1966 to the present day.

We are an almighty bag of shot at present and Owen who has effectively never been part of the team is our best player.#

Solano has passed it. Parker is like Dyer a clockwork mouse who scurries and achieves f all.

We have never had a defence in the 42 years I have watched us, with apologies to Bob M and Mac and Ollie.

Taylor looks ok surrounded by poo, the rest are awful. Zog wants elsewhere, Roeder is Ed sub and all the others are so-so inc Given who has kept us up by himself in the last two.#

This set up of failed ex player coaches, scouts, manager and board are not fit for the old 3rd north and those who buy a season ticket for next year are like me and will be greasing the old bu hole for another reaming. #
    #
There is no hope until we have some footballers.

  26. i agree with many of you, but dont u think we can make that much changes, coz of not enough funds. so only few will be kicked out from SJP.in my opinion brumble, carr, luque, bernard, srniczeck, babayaro shuld be out of the squad.

  27. The financial side of the club is for Shepard to look after, so if he he wants to pay wages to ppl who don`t play that is up to him!!! Back to the question.

I do think ppl are being a bit harsh with some of the players, but a fit NUFC squad of 22, good enough to get into Europe (and I mean for next season only) should be in my opinion

    GK - Given, Harper

RB - AN OTHER, Soland (can play midfield also)
    LB - AN OTHER x2
CB - Taylor, Ramage, Huntington, Edger (all can do a job across the back line if needed) + AN OTHER - experienced leader (Sami Hypia???)

    RM - Milner
LM - N’Zogbia (Also centre midfield)
DMF - Butt, Parker (can play more advanced)
CM - Emre, Dyer (Can play RM, AM, fill in striker)Sibieski (Can fill in as striker)

STR - Owen, Ameobi, Martins, Carrol

So, I feel we need 3 key signings who will be regulars - RB, LB, CB and an additional LB.

    My strongest team would be

Given, RB ANOTHER, LB ANOTHER, CB ANOTHER, Taylor

Milner, Butt, Dyer (Sibieski/ Parker), N’Zogbia

    Owen, Martins (Ameobi).

The players in brackets I would put in if we were up against a more physical team.

Finally, the biggest change should be the manager - try to get Sam while we can!!!

  28. Are you crazy, this team is not going to do chit. Roader has bin using this team and nothing happens, so the only thing we can do is to sack Roader and start from the beginning. And Butt is not a Newcastle Player.

  29. Jon, do you have a problem? U say Roeder has been using this team? In case you are unsure, `AN OTHER` is my way of saying a player he buys in the summer.

I include in this team 3 new defenders Left Back, Right Back, Centre Back.
N`Zogbia has started few games this season, Owen has played one game. Milner has been messed about. So, in reality, 5 players different to what he has started with this season.

I am not saying this is the best team in the world, but what I am trying to be is realistic - this is as far as I feel Newcastle can go in the next 12 months, and IMO I think u could get a top 6 finish with these boys.

However, if it makes you feel better, here is my Newcastle United team to kick off next season with money spent and Roeder in charge

    GK Petr Cech
    RB Micah Richards
    LB Ashley Cole
    CB John Terry
    CB Rio Ferdinand

    DM Michael Essien
    RCM Steve Gerrard
    LCM Frank Lampard
    AMF Kaka

    STR Rooney
    STR Drogba

I would play a diamond kind of formation, a 4-1-2-1-2 formation.

    Subs
    GK Shay Given
    DEF Alex
    DEF Nesta
    MF Ronaldinho
    MF Gattuso
    MF Messi
    STR Eto`o
    STR Torres

So there u go. Make u feel better Jon???
Newcastle have the cash to buy that team, have people fighting for their players, have a manager with pulling power and a Chairman with charisma - NOT!!!

Your comment is the normal rubbish I expect from people with little idea of what they are talking about.

  30. Get rid of owen, he’s just costing us money, he didn’t peform against reading last night, and he’s had time to get fit

  31. Michael dream on, you axially think that Roader as manager is going somewhere with this team?
What player do you think, wants to play for Roader, even if Chairman would get him some money.
Manager that doesn’t give players a chance, after a great performance, like scoring the wining goal in a wary important game. IS NOT a good Manager,
    Palermo 0 Newcastle 1
Albert Luque put up a good game and what happens. He didn’t even get in the 16 people group.
He has the talent and is siding on his as, all day long doing nothing, and why is that.
Manager dos not feel like it.
    Dream team:

    GK: Given

    DR: Taylor
    DC: Bramble
    DC: Onyewu
    DL: Carr

MR: Milner +Dream “Ronaldo Man U”
    MC: Sibierski ´70
    MC: Parker
    ML: Duff

    CS: Luque ´60
    CS: Martins

    Subs:
    GK: Harper
    DR/DC Solano
    DL: Babayaro
    MC: Emre ´70
    CS: Owen ´60

    Manager: Not Roader

People that Newcastle can live without:
    1. Butt
    2. Ameobi
    3. N´Zogbia
    4. Moore
    5. Pattison

P.S. Bring in tow new defenders and one good central midfielder

  32. Jon, I`m not trying to be funny, but it could be a language problem we are having.

The team you have suggested is the team that roeder plays week in, week out. The only different player you have in is Luque in place of Englands main striker, Michael Owen!!!

U also say bring in two good defenders and one central midfield player. I said bring in 3 defenders.

Also, check back to my first post. At the end I say “Finally, the biggest change should be the manager - try to get Sam while we can!!!” - I mean get rid of Roeder!!!

  33. Lord save me!!!

    Mark…

“Get rid of owen, he’s just costing us money, he didn’t peform against reading last night, and he’s had time to get fit”

Owen is Englands top striker. He has been out for a year. He has played one full game. All of the people I talked to said Owen was by far the best player on the pitch on Monday night - he showed Matins up!!! I`m talking about professional people here!!!

  34. He’s been out for more like 2 years…

  35. There’s no way we should get rid of Michael Owen.

I think he feels bad about being injured and he’s getting a raw deal with a small section of fans. He’s committed to Newcastle - believe me!
These things happen unfortunately - but he’s world class - just look how he put the ball in the net on Monday night - even though he was offside.
My feeling is that we have good players - but for whatever reason Roeder (and Souness before him) couldn’t get the best out of them.
Think that Babayaro, Moore, Gooch, Bramble and Bernard will almost certainly go.

If we had a manager who could motivate players (use Roy Keane as example - sorry about that) we would do very very well - even with the players we have.
I’m starting to sour on Roeder because he doesn’t seem to get the best out of the lads - and Allardyce is waiting in the wings!

  36. May 3, 2007rob teague

    well!
luque is a quality player!look at him at deportivo roeder just hasnt given him a chance 2 adapt to the premiership!
    bramble! clown!
    we should sign!
gattuso, girlidinho, zambrotta, gonzalez, robinho(not bein playd at real and papers r sayin he wants 2 go 2 da premiership!
    n phillip mexes!!!!!!!!!!

  37. and you probably need to stay off football manager for a while :)
