Who can Arsene buy with 30m?
Danny Fiszman is adamant that Arsenal’s finances are in rude health and there are plenty of funds available, all Wenger has to do is ask and they’ll be given to him.
Apart from the ass-covering angle of this statement (blame the manager, not us), the question that arises is this: who can Arsenal bring in if they have 30m to spend right now?
Mind you, Fiszman said 30m on one player, but I doubt Arsenal are going to find a young player at the same level as Fabregas is so we’re probably looking at 2-3 young players or even 1 youngster and 1 experienced head.
Barry and Alonso don’t fit the bill – Barry decided two weeks ago to stay at Villa and Alonso is cup-tied till January – although if Wenger had to go for a player and Alonso was available for around 10m it would be foolish not to buy him. Gerrard’s operation means that Alonso may stick around for now and then move on in January, but since that move is more or less linked with Barry it’s unlikely.
So who else? de Guzman? Not a defensive midfielder. Inler? Not really. Appiah? Injury-prone. It’s not long before you run out of midfielders who might be available for a move AND they’d fit Arsene’s criteria of being able to fit into the team (youth and / or a specific style). At this point, it’s easy to get desperate and start taking names like Yaya Toure and Reo-Coker (good players but not necessarily good enough to improve Arsenal), or worse, looking at Deco at Stamford Bridge and Hargreaves at Old Trafford and wondering what if.
On a sidenote, I’ve heard several Arsenal fans criticise Hargreaves and I can’t understand why – he’s a fantastic team-player, good passer of the ball, an aggressive ball-winner and when fit has an engine that can carry a team through the tough spots. He is what Flamini could have been. Too bad Wenger didn’t pick him, especially if he had that sort of money an year or two (or three) ago, as Arsenal always seem to have.
Back to the current midfield situation and the 30m transfer kitty – any thoughts on what surprises Wenger will spring in the next 3 days? I don’t suppose he’s just decided to wait till January or even next summer?
The surprise will be if he buys anybody.The more people say that he should, the less he is inclined to do so. Sees it as a sign of weakness.
I reckon Milan might accept 30m for Flamini…
I’d really like to se Wenger buy Miguel Veloso.. no more than 14million.. but this guy will be the heart of the portugese national team in a couple of years.
i also rekon that we should buy veloso, defensive, left-footed, can take free kicks- exaclty what we need.
Also a replacement for bendtner would be nice or moutinho veloso’s portugese team-mate, then we could push walcott up front and play moutinho on the right…perfect!!!

Calling on all you Gunners “stop panicing” , we still have Rosicky, Diaby, Vela, Ramsey, Bishkoff, Eduardo to come into the team.If anything Arsenal have too much talent in thier squad. Its a marathon not a sprint, we lose one game and everyone panics.Look at Manu this time last season. Trust in Arsene. “Arsene Knows”.
As for Arsenal needing a keeper, Fabianski will by the end of this season be the arsenal No1, infact the world no1, he is awesome!

Miguel veloso. I know hw is a midfielder but I think that Wenger should coff upp the money that is needed….
Might as well get Gattusso. No doubt he’s a crapper version of Flamini, and he’s probably only got a couple of seasons left in him, but he has experience, tenacity, he’s played in Scotland a similar style to the Prem. And I reckon he’d be available. Basically he is not THE answer but he might just do for now. Other than that, break the bank for Yaya or veloso.
toulalan and alou diarra are both quite good from france, toulaland is especially good but doubt lyon will let him go. Veloso is also very good but not up to scratch yet and is expensive. Zapater is good but is a bit like mikel from chelsea, has potential but still lacking in class. I think its too late for arsenal to buy a DM now. Stick with denilson/diaby/song and hope one of them blossoms or maybe try throwing toure in there. Putting senderos out to loan i think will haunt arsenal this season.

I agree get a new manager. As usual we’ll hear none, maybe some unknown youngster of 14 to 15 years time time. Arsene has the habit of surprising!

With a 30mill budget….he could buy just about any defensive midfielder is the world….Toulalan might be the sole exception. Why buy just one player…with 30mill you can get 2 or 3 great players even with some cash left over.
remember arsene is better at judging talet than us, he’s around those players maybe he can c something in song/diaby/denilson that makes him think they will be great players this season, trust in wenger.
