I think it would be wrong to dismiss him on the basis of his lack of length alone. Having watched him at Ajax for the last couple of seasons, I'd be surprised if he wouldn't turn out to be a success for Arsenal. His technical prowess, passing range and reading of the game are very good for a central defender, so he will prove very helpful in building up attacks, and his tackling (or, to be more precise, his timing of those tackles) is outstanding.

Furthermore, the criticism with regard to his lapses in concentration is a bit old hat. Whilst it's true he suffered from this in the past, he has improved a lot in that regard.

He should improve the side. If nothing else, it will give us the depth we need at left and center backs so that players can be fresh for every game. We need to go after a controlling midfielder next, since that is what everyone knows we need. Yaya could be a nice fit, but i also like the rumors of Alonso, hes a proven player with great skills who could work great with cesc.
