Personally I wouldn't mind Souness but that will never happen due to his affiliation with Rangers.
So the main men for the job are: Paul Jewell, Dave O'Leary, Martin Jol(wouldn't be that bad) and Brady.
I would like Jewell to be manager but he quit Wigan for a reason and may want to stay away from football for a while.
O'Leary, it's hard to say. He didn't do well with limited resources at Villa but proved himself (somewhat) at Leeds.
Brady's 2 attempts at management haven't gone well and considering he trains Arsenal's youths Arsene Wenger wont want to let him go.
Martin Jol's spirit may have been broken at Spurs but if he could be motivated he could be good for Ireland.
If it's either Jol or Jewell I would be pretty happy but the blame has to be on the players as much as the manager.

Good point on Paul Jewell.

I think another manager who's shown that he can build fighting teams is Gareth Southgate. Boro at OT, knowing they could get whipped but they went there to play a fighting game and for major chunks of the first half they gave United players no space. I know United are capable of better, but for it says a lot about the Boro side that every player fought for the ball and held off the United charge. Against a team with a weaker spine, the score might have been 6-0.

Ireland is a decent team. Just that at times they are not as consistent as the bigger nations.
