I am Bulgarian too, and I remember me, a six year old boy with a flag, watching the games that summer. It was amazing and I'll never forget it! What an experience that was!!! The best ever!! I still can't believe they did not give us the penalty against Italy when the defender stopped the ball with his hand - I was sitting right there and he clearly stopped it with his hand! (Although, I have to admit that Italy played better than us). The team was great then - today it is not. Berbatov is overrated, Martin Petrov is not what he used to be, Bojinov is still young and not playing well, and Stiliyan Petrov is so-so. The current defense is also not very good. No comparison with the golden '94 team! I was 3 years old when the GOLDEN Bulgarian players made this performance at the World Cup 94.I have watched Letchkov's goals maybe thousand times and now I am still amazed. Excellent team which play modern football. Good goalkeeper who showed what he can in 1/8 final against Mexico. Great defence and one of the strongest defenders ever - Trifon Ivanov. Great midfielders like Letchkov and Krassimir Balakov- one of the best playmakers in football history. He run all the time and organise Bulgarian game every single match. Great Player like Stoichkov made good games with excellent goals. The best TEAM. Good atmosphere. All of the players are still friends and few days before they celebrated 15-years anniversary from this crazy for all Bulgarians summer. I am guy from Bulgaria.
