The players that have played so far, although outstanding in general for their clubs still cannot work together – my main concern being the midfield, because for once we have 4/5 strikers to choose from and a more or less constant defense.

GK: Hart or Green are going to out shine David James this year and rightly so. Ben Foster is no way good enough he needs more experience.

D: Terry, Ferdinand, King on his day, Glen Johnson has his moments but isn’t all that reliable and I nearly forgot A Cole.

M: Lenon, J Cole (is so under rated yet I feel will be England’s greatest asset), even as a United fan I would have to say no for Carrick as he has had a poor season for the club and Hargreaves is injury prone. I have faith in Lampard and Gerard combination if it is given time as both are outstanding players and Frank may miss a penalty now and then but he scores a heck of a lot of good ones. Take SWP as a sub cos he has potential. I would stuggle leaving James Millner out, but Gareth Barry is 50/50. Lescott I have time for but Warnock shouldn’t even be considered. Walcott doesn’t do enough of the right things but given time and some decent advice I could see him in an England shirt.

S: Rooney, Defo, Bent and Crouch are amazing and have been for the whole of last season my problem comes with Heskey but I wouldn’t leave him out if he could influence a game even once from the bench.

But we need a formation that works constantly which we can stick with. 4-4-2 seems to work perfectly for most of the teams (just not us apparently). We need to make sure the wingers we choose can go forwards and backwards to cover the back 4.

With all that said all I can say is GOOD LUCK ENGLAND!!!!

And Joe Marucci, Frank Lampard is absoloutely terrible playing for England, and Steven Gerrard on form is one of the best players in the world. Also Steven Gerrard would take penalties idiot, just like he does for Liverpool.

you are an ideot who in gods name will take the peneltys and who will take the corners Frank Lampard is WAY better than Stevan Gerrard… but i do think ben foster should be in goal.
why not have stevan gerrard on RCM and frank Lampard on RM.

Was it that hard? Yes quite a few of these players are getting older, but they still have the skill and determination to win games.. Johnson has proved himself during the qualifiers, with countless assists, and for goals, who better than Defoe and Rooney? Overall I think the total England squad should look something like:
GK: James, Hart, Foster
DF: Johnson, A.Cole, Neville, Lescott, Terry, Ferdinand, Richards
MF: Lennon, J.Cole, Walcott, Wright-Phillips, Beckham, Barry, Milner, Gerrard, Lampard
FW: Rooney, Defoe, Owen, Bent

After seven qualifiers, England are within touching distance of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Having seen how things have gone thus far, there’s 16 players I think England should definitely bring to the tournament:
GK: James
DF: Terry, R. Ferdinand, A. Cole, Bridge, Lescott
MF: Barry, Gerrard, Lampard, Walcott, Beckham, J. Cole, Carrick
FW: Rooney, Heskey, Defoe
Other possible players: G. Johnson, Upson, Downing, Wright-Phillips, Hargreaves, A. Young
I know Joe Cole’s been injured for much of this year, but on his day, he’s good enough to challenge for the starting XI. Glen Johnson has started most of this campaign as right-back, but he still hasn’t fully proved himself, so for now he’s not irreplacable. Out of the four possible midfielders, I think England’s only got room for one more, as we’ll need five strikers and three GKs. It’s difficult deciding who: we have enough left-mids, so I’d rule out Young and Downing, so for me it’s between Wright-Phillips and Hargreaves.
England’s other strikers and goalkeepers haven’t proved themselves yet, so they’ll need a good year to get those final places. Also, England’s right-back role is up for grabs, so if Johnson doesn’t play well this year, he could be replaced by Brown, Gary Neville or Richards.
Whatever happens, I’m sure Capello will make the right choice.
