Bilic’s West Ham smashing big five mentality after Chelsea win

Every season, the Premier League brings a team that gains the status of giant killers after taking big scalps from England’s ‘Big five’ sides.

Already this season one side has emerged and ignored all claims of the larger teams superiority. They have taken three points from four of the five big name English sides so far. That side is West Ham United.

Since taking the managerial role at West Ham, Slaven Bilic has been made his team the side to watch this season. His appointment has seen the Hammers play an exciting brand of football giving the side six wins from ten games including several huge victories.

These victories include wins against Arsenal on the opening day, Liverpool, Manchester City and most recently Chelsea following their 2-1 victory this past weekend.

As West Ham’s success rate over the larger clubs in the top flight club competition in England grows, it has given all sides in the Premier League a believability of a level pegged season, bridging the gap in quality.

Following their successful start to the Premier League season, the Hammers are sitting within the top four, giving plenty of promise for the rest of their season. They are currently third in the table, level on points with fourth place Manchester United.

However, if they are to keep this dream run going they will need to sustain their performances against mid-table sides. Although Bilic’s side has implemented a solid game plan against the bigger sides, they must assert their dominance over the mid to lower table sides if they are to be taken seriously.

Coming off the back of a victory over Chelsea at Upton Park, West Ham will want to keep their momentum going as they look towards several challenging fixtures. With the upcoming three fixtures being against Watford, Everton and Tottenham, Bilic will hope his side take all nine points available.

The Hammers next chance to take another big Premier League scalp will come on December 8 as the Hammers travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

For now, however, Bilic and his squad will want to continue giving their fans a chance to dream of a European birth next season. Whilst maintaining positive results throughout the campaign.
