Wenger and Benitez criticize Euro 2008 qualification - and they’re right
Arsene Wenger and Rafael Benitez have both spoken out against the current system of qualification for Euro 2008 (I’m sure they’ll say the same when World Cup 2010 comes along), and both are completely right in their arguments.
There is no point in Andorra-England clashes - what does a match like this prove?
“As a manager of a small country, what difference does it make to him to lose 3-0 or 5-0?. Nothing. If you can lose 13-0 like San Marino did to Germany (last September), why does it matter?”
“If you want to see a good game of football, then both teams have to play to win and that is not what happens. I feel very sorry for many national coaches because of this.
In these games they are expected to be 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes and if they are not, they are booed. But the other team is only interested in 0-0 and that is all.”
What’s the answer? A tiered qualification system like the one they have in the Champions League?

Its partly Wengers fault that there is a shortage of good British players nowadays. He’s the guy that regularly plays a squad of 16 all forign players. Its an abosolute joke. It shouldnt be allowed and if I was an Arsenal fan I’d boycott.
“Who’re the Britons??”
