It is virtually impossible to stop the pirates at the moment and this means that the "big" media players wont get involved. When effective solutions to the pirate problem appear, then expect to SKY/ESPN duopoly with syndicated rights via others service providers such as Virgin media, BBC/ITV/BT, etc..
It is the future.
The TV is 20th Century entertainment, the PC in its many guises is for the 21st Century. That screen in the corner of your room will be a media centre (although, to be fair, its not far off that already as your PS3 and Sky+ Box are poorly disguised PC's). I just feel a little sorry for those that paid for the game, there are legal ways to get just about any game anywhere in the world for free (and I do!) but they are not widely publicised.... obviously!

Internet games better not take off as it will rip off fans left, right & centre. We have a relatively small number of TV channels all competing for rights to show games now but if opened to the wider community via the net then we would have to pay per game. Its bad enough paying for a Sky or Virgin subscription but at least its better value for money than paying £5 per game.

The issue is that it was paid. I didn't even know it was only via the net until after. Doesn't matter cause most people would pirate it anyway. If they run ads like they do with regular tv, it will be fine. Even if the quality is crap. If anything they should stream it on both. Like ESPN and ESPN 360. Now thats worth it, plus its free if you are a Verizon customer.

I'm not sure what the fuss is about having matches shown on the internet. I've heard the complaints that you can't watch it on the telly in a pub, but i've been to plenty of places here in New York City where the internet will be connected to a projector (with good quality images) and plenty of fans eating and imbibing while watching the match. So when I hear the argument that football on the internet only prevents the communal enjoyment of the game, I'm somewhat puzzled.

As an English person in American I did feel sorry for the US fans, who are a keen lot, that for many of them the only way they got to follow the game was via Twitter feed and various blogs. As for Rio, #5 is alright, but he might want to worry less about impressing Jay Z and focus on his football, as the way he played the other night couldn't have made Capello very happy.

As an aside, Rio's one of those rare footballers who's internet-savvy (in the business sense, not necessarily in the social media sense). His #5 digital mag may not be everyone's cup of tea but it's quality content and has great potential for ad revenue.
