McManaman was a shining light but in retrospect he did not achieve much at Liverpool in terms of trophies. McManaman gave years of excellent service to the club before going onto have plenty of success in Madrid. In the early years of the Premiership he was one of our shining lights, along with Fowler, and most consistent players. he created around two thirds of Fowler's first hundred goals for Liverpool McMahon played a key role in the great 88 side, and again in the title side of 90, and it is acknowledged that his injury in 1991 against Everton played a big part in our collapse to Arsenal that season.
