Wayne Rooney has been doing his best to make sure his Manchester United teammate Angel Di Maria stays at the club after pleading with the Argentine to employ a Gurkha to protect his family after they were victims of a burglary from an armed gang recently.

The former Real Madrid star and his partner have been left deeply traumatised by the incident – with them refusing to go back to the rented property where the break-in happened.

Rooney was subjected to similar burglaries in 2010 and decided to take the radical step of hiring a Nepalese warrior to protect his property. The United and England captain has since had no further problems with no one daring to go anywhere near the place.

Di Maria, who made a good start to his Old Trafford career has since struggled to replicate that form and has been reported as considering a move away in order to protect the safety of his family, that includes his one year-old daughter.

A club source told The Sun: “Angel’s wife Jorgelina has been left terrified by the attack and won’t go back to the rented house in Cheshire.

“Wayne has suggested a Gurkha like the one who protects his and Wes Brown’s places. Their guy has had a decorated career in the Army and no one dares go anywhere near the houses.”

Di Maria, who cost £60m from Madrid in the summer, could now take Rooney’s advice. United fans will certainly be hoping so as they hope to see the best of their record signing again.
