With the second leg of Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid just around the corner, we thought it might be fun to highlight the last goal the Blues scored at this stage of the competition, and ask whether Chelsea fans have ever witnessed a more dramatic strike?

Fernando Torres, who could feature tonight at Stamford Bridge, ran at least half the length of the Nou Camp to score the goal that took Chelsea to the final against Bayern Munich in 2012, and in the most ludicrous of circumstances.

With Barcelona setting up shop on the edge of the Chelsea box with just minutes to go, needing just one goal to take them to Munich, Torres latched on to a desperate Ashley Cole punt forward, and careered towards an isolated Victor Valdes in the Barcelona goal.

Seasons seemed to pass as the maligned striker bared down unhindered on Valdes, with Chelsea fans all over the world collectively passing out from oxygen deprivation. It was up to the £50m flop to win the game, against all the odds, and conquer the Barcelona beast, something that seemed practically impossible after John Terry’s farcical sending-off earlier.

We all know what happened next, with the Spaniard beating his compatriot, and breaking Barca hearts with the simplest of tap-ins (no easy feat for Torres, mind)!

With just seconds left, and Barcelona needing two more to progress, Chelsea were in the final of the Champions League. An unbelievable end to an historic tie between the two sides. Chelsea fans worldwide went ballistic, as their struggling striker had delivered when it mattered most. Pure box-office!

Chelsea are up against Spanish opposition tonight, with this tie similarly balanced. Can Torres produce a moment of magic again?

What do you think, was Torres’ goal vs Barca the most gut-wrenching, heart attack-inducing goal Chelsea have ever scored? Let me know in the comments below…
