After 198 days, former Barcelona goal keeper and reported Manchester United target Victor Valdes has posted his first tweet, where he declared that he is finally ready to take the field after nine months’ injury lay off.

Valdes was close to joining Monaco in the summer but a cruciate ligament injury scuppered the move. He was linked with a move to Premier League giants Liverpool, but that interest died down quickly before it took any concrete shape. Brendan Rodgers, the Reds manager gave an interview to AS last month where he said Liverpool are not looking to sign any Spanish players at the moment that basically rules out any potential move for the former Barcelona goal keeper.

Manchester United grabbed this opportunity with both hands and offered Valdes, a free agent, a chance to train, complete his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to work his way back to fitness.

“Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has offered the 32-year-old former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes a chance to complete his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to work his way back to fitness with the club.” a statement read on United’s official website.

“Valdes, a free agent, will have his recovery supervised by the United medical staff before training with the first team, as he bids to regain full fitness.”

Mundo Deportivo claimed last month that Valdes could undergo a medical shortly in Manchester United. Catalan newspaper Sport says he is already training with Manchester United, so all indications pointing towards one question – will he become the first signing for Manchester United in January?
