Robin van Persie warns Arsenal over wages

Written by Andrei

Robin van Persie has warned Arsenal that they risk losing their top players if they are not offered more money. Arsenal currently pay less than other clubs of similar magnitude and the Dutch striker believes that this could break up the talented team, or at least that is what The Daily Mail says.

Matthieu Flamini has already left the club this summer and he could be followed out the door by Alexander Hleb before long. And now the likes of Barcelona are looking at Arsenal to strengthen their squad. Reports in Spain this morning said that Adebayor has attracted the interest of Pep Guardiola and he could join the Catalan club for £23 million.

The squad, which is undoubtedly talented is facing an exodus if they do not pay their players more and start winning trophies. Flamini said upon joining AC Milan that Arsenal’s failure to win trpohies was a factor in his decision to leave the club.

Should Arsenal wish to mount a serious title challenge next year they will have to keep their top players, bring in some more top players and all of this will require some heavy investment. If the shareholders are not ready to supports that investment, then the club could find itself in trouble in a couple of seasons as it will look to play catch to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United who are both investing heavily.

  1. While I sense what is behind Robin’s latest declaration I do feel that a man who has started so few games in the past few seasons could perhaps have kept his latest utterances between himself and the club. What good does it do to do otherwise? Getting by on 50 grand a week must be hard work these days.

  2. It’s not that Jimbo. The top players deserve to get a salary on par with their counterparts in Europe.Fabregas is one of the top players in England. Why shouldn’t he be paid around the same as them?Van Persie too is probably waiting for 1 good season,he too would demand a raise them. And it’s not that their just mercaneries either, you look at it this way:What if tommorow they get injured and their career is ended? What if tommorow the players need to start a multi-million dollar bussiness. Why should the likes of Raikonnen,Lebron James, and Tiger Woods be paid more than the likes of Ronaldo when ROnaldo is as good at his game as they are in theirs?Keep in mind,Football is easily the most popular game on the planet

  3. definitely footballers shud be paid more. they are the biggest entertainers on the planet.
