Van Gaal: I can’t imagine Evans doing that

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans was at the centre of a spitting storm controversy against Newcastle United and could face disciplinary action from FA, should he found guilty.

The defender was involved in a 39th minute spat with Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse but the striker in turn has accused him of spitting.

United manager Van Gaal admitted that he couldn’t see the incident from his position on the bench.

Furthermore, he admits that Evans is a modest person and can’t imagine the defender would stoop to this low.

“I didn’t see that from the bench. It is too far to see a spitting moment so I cannot judge that,” he said as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“But I cannot imagine Jonny Evans doing that because he is a very modest person and couldn’t do that. I cannot imagine it.

“I was not made aware of it and it wasn’t a discussion the dressing room.”

We have had incidents in the past, as last season Hull City’s George Boyd was banned for three matches after an alleged spitting with City’s Joe Hart.
