Valencia CF have announced the signing of Fenerbahce forward Luis Nani on a three-year deal after triggering his £7.2 million release clause.

Nani left Manchester United only last summer to join the Turkish side but spent a season before on loan at his former club Sporting Lisbon.

The Portugal International made 55 league appearances in his last two spells in as many seasons, scoring on 15 different occasions but has failed to win a major trophy since leaving the Red Devils.

Premier League club Stoke City registered an interest to bring Nani back to England after Mark Hughes’s assistant manager Mark Bowen claimed that ‘he is player Mark (Hughes) admires a lot’ but Valencia acted quickly to acquire the player’s services.

“Valencia have reached an agreement with Portugal international Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha ‘Nani’ that ties the player to our club for the next three seasons,” read a statement from Valencia.

“Nani, 29, has played for Sporting CP (2005-2007, 2014-15), Manchester United (2007-2014) and Fenerbahce (2015-16).

“His impressive record includes winning the Champions League and four Premier League titles with Manchester United and two Portuguese Cups with Sporting. In his last season with Fenerbahce, Nani played 46 official matches, in which he scored 12 goals.”

The 29-year-old, who is currently on international duty to represent his national side in the Euro 16, arguably enjoyed the most successful spell of his career at Manchester United, winning four Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

Nani and Portugal face Wales in the first semi-final of the Euro 16 on Wednesday night in their quest to reach the final of the elite European tournament.
