The USA defeated European champions Spain 2-0 to proceed to the 2009 Confederations Cup final. Goals from Altidore and Dempsey gave the Americans the ’shock’ win, while at the back a solid performance by DeMerit and Onyewu ensured that Spain didn’t get much of a chance to get something out of this game.
