I agree with Mourinho - MLS needs to open up a bit in order to grow.

Having said that, the league's place in US sports and the sheer size of the country makes for a few serious problems that MLS need to sort out otherwise opening up could just as easily lead to a collapse for one or more clubs.

Champions League bench players could do well here if they could handle the physicality and time zone travel. Stand out like Darren Huckerby, who made the most of it and is now a star, doing well.

European clubs get cash, which I understand, some need right now. Mourinho's statements are very timely. Only 6 or so clubs have DPs, although Guillermo Barros Schelloto was not a DP (just well-paid) and singlehandedly kicked things up a notch.

How would sending European players and coaches to America benefit Europe though? I only see the MLS getting better with that plan.

There's nothing pointless about WPS, the standard of play is high. Twitter seems pointless until you discover how quickly it's spreading and changing communication. If you're not there yet, you don't have long to wait.

As for Mourinho's comments, he points out that there are important collaborative opportunities for MLS and European clubs that have yet to be realized, but might be soon given financial circumstances and the growth of MLS.
