The Kevin De Bruyne transfer saga to Manchester City took another twist as his agent backtracked on the player’s quotes about staying at current club Wolfsburg for the 2015/16 season.

De Bruyne, who bagged Lower Saxony’s Footballer of the Year award for 2015 at the Sport Bild Awards last night, was pressed into quoting his commitment to the Wolves, which was later shrugged off by his agent, indicating the player’s move to Manchester City is still on.

Upon being pressed by presenter Alexander Bommes at last night’s event, the Belgian said: “I, Kevin De Bruyne, will definitely play this season at VfL Wolfsburg,” which was later angrily denied by his agent as De Bruyne’s quotes spread like wildfire, which tended to mean the player would not be joining Manchester City despite the heavy interest from the English giants.

Patrick De Koster, De Bruyne’s agent, retorted furiously at the “scandalous” situation, given the Belgian isn’t a native German speaker.

“The management are really mad about this situation and it is really scandalous,” said De Koster.

24-year-old De Bruyne’s move to England seems all but done as Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking wished him luck for his future, pointing to the tough last few days his club will have to face in the transfer window.

“These are going to be difficult days for all involved.

“And, even if our days together should not continue, I would already now like to wish him all the best,” Hecking was quoted as saying by The Times.

Manchester City have been hot on the heels of De Bruyne throughout the summer, and have had a bid of £38m rejected by the German club last week. Although the Wolves are keen to keep their star player beyond this summer, another approach from City in the coming days will likely spell the end of the Belgian’s one-and-a-half year stay at the club.
