I'd say the reason Lampard hasn't come out and said anything in the press is because this 'deal' he wants is a joke. No club is going to give a 30 year old that sort of contract, and what's more Frank and his agent know it. Lampard has dodged signing a new contract because he probably never intended to see his career out at Chelsea anyway. So these demands are a get out for him and he's trying to make the club look like the villains in the process. Loyal? I don't think so.
As for the comment about Gerrard being more loyal though. Come on, we all know he didn't exactly choose to stay at Liverpool without a bit of persuasion.

The one thing that gets me the most about the Lampard situation is the fact that the club had his back throughout his bereavement period and gave him all the time he needed, and then not even too long afterwards, all of the stuff about him potentially leaving starts up again.

On his part, their support of him should count for something. Maybe it does, at least I'd hope so, even though I'm neither a fan of Chelsea or of Lamps.

welcome to Soccerlens Denise, nice article.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if Lampard had come out and asked what he wanted for in the press - assuming that he's asking for parity with other top players, wouldn't that be considered disloyal to teammates and club (disclosing salaries and negotiations, etc)?

Harry Kewell is just one example. What about Ryan Giggs or Jamie Carragher? If loyalty is dead I fail to see how these two players have ever turned their backs on their club.

I remember a certain harry kewell who was eager to repay the clubs faith in him through a series of injuries, which effectively saw him getting paid a lot of wages for very little games. The same harry kewell who was offered a new contract on lesser terms and refused it outright... loyalty is dead and gone in todays football players.....

a salary cap is probably the answer.even man u have been winning because they've been spending the most. if u make it even with a salary cap then we know who is the best team/coach and it ll be easier for players to stay with the teams they really like without being distracted by quick money or success.
is inter really offering lampard a 5 yr deal worth 150k a week?i know inter are as crazy as spurs and newcastle but its still hard to swallow.lamps is an all action player.his box to box style demands a lot of energy and in 2 yrs time his performances ll diminish and he'll still be earning a cool 150k for 3 more yrs.sounds like theivery to me but then if the money was stolen by abramovich then maybe lamps aint so bad.

Stevie is more loyal, i think a player should stay at a club at least 5 years before moving on. Stevie and Lampard having given years of good memories for their clubs. The attraction of quick EPL success was too much for Gerrard to resit or was it? No. He stuck it out at Liverpool because he knows that nothing can compare to the feeling he gets when he lifts a trophy for Liverpool.
