Transfer Rumors (29 May 08): Hleb to Barcelona, Capel to Tottenham, Eto’o to AC Milan, and more

Thursday’s transfer roundup has more questions than answers, it seems. Maybe Friday will bring answers to the questions, or maybe they’ll just breed more questions.

Whatever the case may be, it’s on to today’s news and spec.

So, does Alexander Hleb want to stay at Arsenal, or does he want to leave? He loves the Premier League, but he hates London, and he’s apparently reached an agreement with Barcelona over a move, so says

Rumor Rating: 3 – Until there’s a transfer fee that’s been agreed, Hleb’s an Arsenal man. And in the meantime, Inter Milan and Real Madrid can continue to fawn over him and hope that they can woo him with promises of money and many trophies.

Nice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is really a wanted man, isn’t he? It looked like he was set for AC Milan, then for Lyon, and now it looks like his Milan move is back on, and will be completed soon.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Well, we know he’s going somewhere, but where?

The Rossoneri are also in hot pursuit of Samuel Eto’o and are in the process of selling off a few players to be able to fund what could be a 35 million euro transfer. Striker Ricardo Oliveira has made his loan move to Real Zaragoza a permanent deal, netting 10 million euros for AC Milan, and the sale of Alberto Gilardino to Fiorentina could net them 15 million.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Oliveira and Gilardino didn’t make the expected impacts after big-money moves to Milan, but on the bright side, the club is recouping most of what they spent for them.

Tottenham may well be losing out on Eto’o, but they are on the verge of signing Sevilla’s Diego Capel, as they’ve agreed personal terms with the 20-year old left winger and are ready to pony up the 15 million euro release clause.

Rumor Rating: 5 – There’s still a loose end to be tied up, as the two clubs haven’t come to an agreement on the tax bill (Tottenham wants to split it), but that shouldn’t throw a wrench into the deal.

Spurs are also set to make a move for Getafe defender Daniel ‘Cata’ Diaz, who could cost them 3 million pounds. Diaz impressed

Fulham’s American striker Brian McBride will be leaving the club, as he and his family have decided that it’s time to return stateside.

Rumor Rating: 5 – McBride has had a decorated career both on the club level and internationally, and even though he’s now almost 36, he’s still got a lot left in the tank.

A couple of Premier League sides are reportedly interested in Deportivo defender Fabricio Coloccini, who is also the object of interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Rumor Rating: 4 – His agent says that he’s been going back and forth to England to talk with the two unnamed clubs, so Real and Barca best get a move on if they want to keep him in Spain. Depor don’t want to let him go, but they could use the hefty cash injection.

German side Wolfsburg are looking to make several big signings as they prepare for a run at a Champions League place and the Bundesliga title, and apparently they think Italy is the talent capital of the world. They’ve already signed two Italian players in Palermo defenders Christian Zaccardo and Andrea Barzagli, and now they’re looking to address their front line, as Udinese’s highly-rated striker Fabio Quagliarella and Lazio’s Rolando Bianchi are on their wish-list.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Would you like some mozzarella on your bratwurst? All kidding aside, you’ve got to admire the ambition. If they want to break into the top three and have some success in Europe, signing some quality players is the way to make it happen.

Well, that’s it for today – chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow.
