Transfer Rumors (27 May 08): Bentley to Liverpool, Dos Santos to Tottenham, Saha to Fulham, and more

Today’s transfer roundup has plenty of tasty bits, much like a certain set of articles that will appear on Soccerlens in the coming days. But you’ll have to wait and see what I’m referring to, much like several of these clubs below will have to wait and see if they’ll get the targets they’re linked with.

Liverpool could be making a 12 million pound bid for Blackburn’s David Bentley.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Is 12 million enough? I’m not sure it is, with Blackburn reportedly wanting at least 15 million, but we’ll see. Bentley’s on his way out, more than likely, but Rovers are going to try to get the price they want before they let him go

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham could sign Barcelona’s Giovani dos Santos for 7 million pounds.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Well, it looks like he will be on his way to a Premier League club, if he does indeed leave Barcelona, but we’ll see.

According to the Daily Mirror, Portsmouth are in the market for a trio of players: Sidney Govou of Lyon (available for 7 million pounds), PSG striker Amara Diane, and Lazio midfielder Gaby Mudingaye.

Rumor Rating: 5 – When you get a sip from the fountain of success, you want to keep it flowing for as long as possible, which appears to be the mindset Harry Redknapp has.

According to reports, Fulham could be looking to bring Louis Saha back to Craven Cottage, as Roy Hodgson is apparently lining up a 4 million pound bid for the Manchester United striker, who starred at Fulham from 2000-04 before a big-money move to Old Trafford.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Maybe going back where he saw his most success will be the key to really reviving a career that has been blighted by an inability to stay healthy, along with the fact that he dropped down the pecking order up front.

Portsmouth are in the hunt for Lens’ Algerian defender Nadir Belhadj, who only arrived at Lens in January, but could make a move elsewhere with the club having been relegated from Ligue 1.

Rumor Rating: 3 – He’d be an inexpensive buy, and even though they’re already set at right back, there’s nothing wrong with adding some experienced, quality depth.

The Amauri transfer saga looks to be almost over, as the Palermo striker is going to have a medical in Turin today to put the finishing touches on a 10 million euro move to Juventus. Juventus will also send midfielder Antonio Nocerino to Palermo, along with part of Davide Lanzafame’s contract.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Will he turn out to be worth it?

AC Milan are set to sign Genoa striker Marco Borriello, who had a breakout season with 19 goals. The deal will be worth 4 million euros, defender Luca Antonini, and midfielder Davide Di Gennaro on loan.

Rumor Rating: 5 – One-year wonder, or is here to stay? He earned a place on Italy’s Euro 2008 squad, so he’ll have a chance to show how well he can stack up against the best of the best in Europe.

The Rossoneri are also looking to nab Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, who will be out of contract next year if he and United can’t come to an agreement on a new deal. They’re reportedly set to offer him a big-money contract in the next few weeks, and Inter and Juventus could also be making a move for him in the near future as well.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Evra’s replaceable, but there’s still a ways to go in the contract talks before anyone can say he’s on his way out. However, there’s a more than fair chance that he could be.

As for another Frenchman that AC Milan was interested in, Nice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, he’s going to join Lyon anytime now, according to Lyon prez Jean-Michel Aulas.

Rumor Rating: 5 – With Gregory Coupet on his way elsewhere, Lyon are quickly swooping for a replacement, and if Aulas’ words are true, they’re getting one right from under Milan’s noses after it looked like he was all set for Italy.

Barcelona have sealed a 14 million euro capture of Sevilla’s Seydou Keita, as the Malian midfielder has signed a four-year deal with the Blaugrana after only a season (an impressive one, at that) at Sevilla.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Will Barca still be signing his teammate, Daniel Alves? That one’s dragged on a little longer than expected, but maybe we’ll hear something before Euro 2008 starts.

In managerial news, the ‘Special One,’ Jose Mourinho, could be unveiled as Inter’s new boss by the end of the week, while The Sun says that Mourinho’s replacement at Chelsea, Avram Grant is the favorite to become Manchester City’s new manager.

Is Grant a good move for City? Share your opinion on that potential move and all of the rest of the transfer news – and chip in with your own.
