Transfer Rumors (24 June 08): Spurs set to snare keeper(s), Liverpool want more for Crouch, Blackburn resist advances for Bentley, and more

With Euro 2008 winding down this week, a lot of transfer dominos are sure to start falling soon, so expect more signings to go with the daily spec. There are a few signings to report today, but there are quite a few interesting rumors as well, so get to reading!

Rumor Rating System

1 – almost impossible/laughable
2 – highly unlikely, but not impossible
3 – could go either way
4 – player seems set to leave/level of interest seems mutual
5 – done deal/certainty that the player is leaving

And Bolton’s mystery man is…Johan Elmander. I mentioned Bafetimbi Gomis as their mystery striker target the other day, and as it happens, their target is a France-based product in Toulouse hit-man Elmander.

Bolton are looking to pay a club-record 12 million pounds for the Swede, and could also throw in Norwegian attacker Daniel Braaten, who didn’t make much of an impact in his first season at the Reebok.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Elmander was well out of Bolton’s range a short while ago, as Toulouse had his asking price at 21 million, but for 12 million + Braaten, the Trotters will get a solid striker who’s still got age on his side.

Aston Villa’s interest in David Bentley isn’t a mystery, but Blackburn don’t seem intent on letting Bentley go, at least on the ‘cheap.’ Rovers, now with Paul Ince on board as manager, knocked back Villa’s 15 million pound move for Bentley.

Rumor Rating: 2 – So, does this mean that Blackburn will hold on to him? Maybe they’re trying to do the same thing that Villa are doing to Liverpool over Gareth Barry.

Villa are also going to have to pay a little more if they want to get West Ham’s Anton Ferdinand, as West Ham likely won’t let him go for less than eight million, when both Villa and Spurs had been linked with six million pound moves.

Rumor Rating: 4 – A couple mil shouldn’t stop either of them from making a move, as they both have a great need to shore up the backline.

Apparently nine million pounds isn’t enough to lure Peter Crouch from Liverpool, as the Reds rejected Portsmouth’s offer for him.

Rumor Rating: 4 – This shouldn’t deter Pompey from making another bid, and another million or two should do the trick, though their initial bid could set off bids from competitors like Aston Villa.

Tottenham are inching closer to signing PSV goalkeeper Gomes, as they’re close to agreeing a fee for the Brazilian keeper.

Rumor Rating: 4 – So, what does this mean for Paul Robinson? Will he stay and fight for the #1 spot, or will he pack up and go where he might be more assured of a starting place.

Spurs certainly aren’t short of options for a new keeper, as The Sun says that they’re interested in Brescia keeper Emiliano Viviano, as they’ve bid 9.6 million pounds for the 22-year old.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Viviano, who has represented Italy at U-21 level, could be more of a prospect for the future, though he may be able to step in and start immediately.

Stoke City could be set to sign Moroccan striker Bouchaib El-Moubarki.

Rumor Rating: 4 – The 30-year old striker currently plays for French side Grenoble, who were recently promoted to Ligue 1, but he looks set to turn down a deal to stay in France to come to England.

Burnley have quickly found a replacement for Kyle Lafferty, signing Scunthorpe striker Martin Paterson in a deal initially worth a million pounds. Like Lafferty, Paterson is a Northern Ireland international, and he’s just a few months older than Lafferty.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Paterson, who scored 14 goals in all competitions in his only season at Scunthorpe, is one to watch over the next few seasons.

Sevilla have made their third signing in the last week, snapping up midfielder Koffi Ndri Romaric from French side Le Mans for eight million euros.

Rumor Rating: 5 – The 25-year old Ivory Coast international is yet another product of ASEC Mimosas, the same Ivory Coast club side that has produced the likes of the Toure brothers, the Kalou brothers, and several other current members of the country’s national team.

Inter Milan are interested in Werder Bremen flop Carlos Alberto, who was a key member of Jose Mourinho’s Champions League-winning side at Porto four years ago.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Werder are likely all too ready to get rid of the 23-year old attacking midfielder, who they purchased only last summer.

Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker wants his club to make a move for his international teammate Lukas Podolski, who seems to be headed for the exit door at Bayern Munich.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Werder Bremen led the Bundesliga in goals scored last season with 75, and the addition of Podolski would offset the loss of Ivan Klasnic and keep the cupboard stocked with scoring options.

Bordeaux have signed Caen forward Yoan Gouffran. The 22-year old France U-21 international has signed a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 runners-up.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Gouffran not only helped Caen stay up after being promoted from Ligue 2, but his 11 goals (10 in the league) were a key part of the team finishing just shy of the top half of the table.

PSG are considering a move for Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni, who has only one more year on his contract at the club and could be looking for a new challenge.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Given that PSG are a shell of their former selves right now, Kameni might opt to wait until one of Europe’s better sides comes calling.

According to reports, PSG have also accepted a bid from Turkish champions Galatasaray for want-away striker Amara Diane.

Rumor Rating: 5 – I’m not sure if Turkey was what he had in mind for his next destination, but going from relegation struggler to a place in the Champions League certainly isn’t shabby.

Well, that’s it for today. What do you think of today’s rumors? Will Blackburn hold on to Bentley, or will they take the big money and move on? How much should Portsmouth pay for Crouch? Will Elmander have a big impact in the Premier League?

Chime in, chip in, and come back tomorrow!
