Transfer Rumors (20 Jan 2010): Celtic slap 11m tag on Birmingham target McGeady, James’ Stoke move back on, Fulham eye Beattie loan, and more

McGeady To Cost Brum £11m

Celtic are opening to doing business with Birmingham City over a move for star winger Aiden McGeady, but he’ll only be allowed to leave for £11m. (The Mirror)

Analysis: If Birmingham are to keep their position in the table for the long run and perhaps even make a serious run at earning a European place, making a big splash in January could be a real difference maker, and given their pursuit of McGeady, Ryan Babel, and Kenwyne Jones, I don’t think they’ll be scared off by Celtic’s price tag.

James’ Stoke Move Back On?

It looked like David James wasn’t going to be moving from Portsmouth to Stoke City, but it looks like he will after all, as the two sides are trying to hash out a loan deal for the England keeper. (The Mirror)

Analysis: If the move doesn’t end up working out, the Daily Mail has Sheffield Wednesday’s Lee Grant as a £2m backup option.

Fulham To Loan Beattie?

Fulham could be set to make a move to land Stoke City striker James Beattie on loan for the rest of the season. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Beattie would be a solid, inexpensive fill-in while Bobby Zamora is sidelined for the next several weeks due to injury, so this wouldn’t be a bad move on Fulham’s part.

Sunderland In For Nagy

Sunderland have made an offer to Al-Ittihad for Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Nagy, who has been one of the stars of the African Cup of Nations thus far. (Transfer Market Web)

Analysis: Certainly no dallying with this one if you’re Sunderland, because Nagy’s made himself quite the wanted man by his performances at the ACN, just a few short weeks after making his national team debut.

Wigan Target Aduriz

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez watched Mallorca striker Aritz Aduriz against Getafe on Tuesday, and a £4m move could be forthcoming. (The Mirror)

Analysis: There’s been a lot of speculation about Wigan selling Hugo Rodallega to raise some spending money, but even if Rodallega stays, Wigan are in need of a new striker to lighten the load on Rodallega.

Bolton Eye Basturk

Blackburn are pondering a move for VfB Stuttgart’s veteran midfielder Yildiray Basturk. (Daily Mail)

Analysis: Safe to say this potential signing might be a little more exciting if it was happening, say, a few years ago, but Basturk’s barely seen the pitch over the last two seasons, making only three starts and all of six total appearances.

France

Toulouse Land Kazim-Richards

Toulouse have signed Fenerbahce striker Colin Kazim-Richards on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy the former Sheffield United man for €4m. (Transfer Market Web)

Analysis: Toulouse have found their scoring boots since the league resumed, scoring six goals in two matches, but it only helps their hopes of moving from mid-table to in European contention to further boost their attack.
