Transfer Rumors (13 July 08): Arsenal drop Adebayor price, African striker interests Tottenham and more

There’s not a great deal to report on in today’s transfer roundup, but we’ve got all the latest in the Frank Lampard and Emmanuel Adebayor sagas and more, so the cupboard certainly isn’t bare by any means.

I’m sure many might be wearing thin of certain players being mentioned, but hey, I’m just the messenger. On that note, Italian reports are saying that Inter are ready to offer Adriano plus £12m to land Frank Lampard.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Given the fact that Adriano seems to have rediscovered his former self at Sao Paulo, he could be quite the sweetener in the deal.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s agent says that Arsenal have dropped their asking price for the star striker by more than half of the 45 million euros that they initially asked for.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Strangely enough, this news comes as AC Milan have apparently started to back off from their interest in him. Maybe a lower fee will push them to go after him again, but if they don’t, are there going to be any other takers for him, even if he’s now available for £15-20m?

Ghanaian striker Eric Bekoe is saying that Tottenham are interested in signing him. The 21-year old, who stars for Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko and has cracked his country’s senior national team, also says that Hertha Berlin are interested in him as well.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Bekoe burst onto the scene in Ghana over the last season, which was his first with Asante Kotoko. He led the Ghanaian Premier League with 17 goals as Asante Kotoko won the league title by 16 points over Bekoe’s old side, Heart of Lions.

Blackburn are reportedly interested in Chelsea defender Juliano Belletti, who could be one of several expendable players that exit Stamford Bridge this summer.

Rumor Rating: 5 – With Steve Sidwell leaving and Tal Ben Haim likely on his way to Manchester City, Belletti could make the third purchase from last summer to be sold after only one season. There’s a good chance Claudio Pizarro could go as well, and there’ve even been rumors about Florent Malouda going also, so is it safe to say that 2007 wasn’t their best when it comes to transfers in.

West Brom are in the hunt to sign Porto left back Marek Cech, and according to reports from Portugal, the Baggies have already put in a bid for the 25-year old Slovakian, who has been with Porto since 2005 and has 27 caps for the Slovakian national team.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Cech could be a replacement for Paul Robinson, who could be set for a move to Fulham in the near future.

The Mirror says that Hull are set to spend a club-record £2.25m on Portsmouth’s Sean Davis. The former Fulham and Tottenham midfielder’s chances of starting regularly at Hull are much better than they are at Pompey.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Hull are doing all they can to bring in reinforcements for their Premier League campaign, as they signed two players this week, and along with Davis and George Boateng, they’re also looking to bring in Tottenham defender Ricardo Rocha on a season-long loan.

Coventry have completed the £1.2m signing of Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood.

Rumor Rating: 5 – If Eastwood can return to his pre-Wolves form, Coventry won’t have any relegation scares next season.

QPR have made a bid of £250k and striker Daniel Nardiello to Blackpool for Latvian international defender Kaspars Gorkss.

Crystal Palace are giving financially-strapped Luton a little cash injection by swooping for 21-year old striker Calvin Andrew for £400k. Andrew scored four goals last season for Luton, whose most recent blow is having to start their League Two season with in a 30-point hole.

Rumor Rating: 5 – It’s a shame that Luton have fallen so far so quickly. Only in 2005-06, they looked to be on the fast track to the Premier League. Now, it’s looking like the Conference could be their home in 2009, if they’re still even in existence. Selling off one of their top prospects in Andrew will help a little, but they need a lot of help right now.

Benfica are reportedly close to sealing a €7.5m deal for Real Zaragoza’s Pablo Aimar, where the Argentine star would be reunited with former Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Aimar was also the subject of interest from Newcastle, but it looks like he’s going to pass on the Premier League to link up with a familiar face.

Well, like I said, it’s a pretty short day in news and rumors, so that’s it for today. But, I’m sure there’ll be plenty to report on for Monday, so until then, chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back then.
