Transfer Rumors (04 June 08): Ramsey to United, Aimar to Newcastle, Villa to Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs and more

There has been no ‘official’ statement from Cristiano Ronaldo yet, but according to numerous reports, he is already telling friends and family in Portugal that his heart’s set on a move to Real Madrid, either this year or next.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Until something comes out of his mouth, whether it’s good for United or not, it’s all just speculation for now.

According to Manchester United’s official website, the club have agreed a fee with Cardiff over starlet Aaron Ramsey.

Rumor Rating: 5 – There’s still personal terms and all of that stuff to be taken care of, and Arsenal and others are still in for him, but have United won the race for the talented young midfielder?

The Daily Mail says that Liverpool will offer Aston Villa a package worth 15 million pounds in order to get Gareth Barry.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Will that be enough?

Valencia are willing to listen to offers for star striker David Villa, and according to the Daily Mail, it’s for a relatively cut-rate fee of 17 million pounds.

Rumor Rating: 5 – That’s in the price range for both Chelsea and Tottenham, and it’s also within Arsenal’s price range, if they choose to make a play for the Spanish star.

Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann has finally sealed a return to his homeland, as the veteran keeper will move to VFB Stuttgart on a one-year deal.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Lehmann seemed set for a move to Borussia Dortmund in the winter window, but even though that didn’t happen, it was all but a formality that he’d move back to Germany sooner or later.

Newcastle could make a 6.5 million pound for Real Zaragoza’s Pablo Aimar, who is on his way out after Zaragoza’s relegation from the Spanish top flight.

Rumor Rating: 5 – The lower price could also alert Liverpool, who were linked with a move for him in the winter window.

The Sun says that Bolton, Aston Villa, and Newcastle are in a battle for Tottenham defender Michael Dawson, who could cost 4 million pounds.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Dawson could stay and fight for his place at White Hart Lane, or he could go to another club, where a regular starting place could be a little more assured.

Portsmouth are being linked with more and more players by the day, and today, Pompey are being linked with Panathinaikos midfielder Marcelo Mattos, a former teammate of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano at Brazilian side Corinthians.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Panathinaikos paid 3 million euros for Mattos last year, so to sell him for 6 million pounds would be quite the profit.

According to the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough could swoop for Tottenham’s Tom Huddlestone, who could be available for 6 million pounds.

Rumor Rating: 5 – He could still be a vital part of Tottenham’s ever-revamping squad, but if Boro trump up the money, Juande Ramos won’t mind letting him go, I’m sure.

Middlesbrough reportedly lead the race for West Brom’s Zoltan Gera, who is out of contract with the Baggies.

Rumor Rating: 5 – He’s expected to make his decision by the end of the week, so we’ll know where he’s headed within the next few days.

Sporting Life says that Villareal could make a move for Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell in case Martin Caceres, a Barcelona target, departs this summer.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Caceres seems bound for Barca in the near future, so they could give Campbell a call not too long after.

Everton’s Lee Carsley has completed a free transfer to Birmingham City.

Rumor Rating: 5 – The veteran midfielder will bring some key experience to a Birmingham squad looking to make a quick return to the Premier League.

Well, that’s it for today. Hopefully it’s enough to last you until tomorrow, but if it’s not, you can chime in with rumors you’ve read or heard, and I’ll be back with more tomorrow.
