Transfer Rumors (03 June 08): Ronaldinho to Manchester City, Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester United, de la Red to Arsenal, and more

There’s still no news on what Cristiano Ronaldo plans to do, but that should be coming sometime today. So, thankfully for those who want a break from him, there’s no Ronaldo spec in today’s transfer roundup.

There is, however, Manchester United-related news, which I’ll start with.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are lining up a 15 million pound bid for Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz, who’s coming off of a stellar debut season in England.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Blackburn could take multiple hits in the near future, with Mark Hughes set to leave for Manchester City and if David Bentley (Liverpool target) and Santa Cruz follow behind him.

Speaking of Hughes and his new club, the Daily Mail says that Manchester City are stepping up their efforts to sign Ronaldinho, who could command a salary of 200,000 pounds per week.

Rumor Rating: 3 – 1) Is he worth it? 2) Can they pull it off?

Tottenham should sign Barcelona’s Giovani dos Santos this week, for an initial fee of 6 million pounds, with a further 3 million contingent on appearances and other clauses.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Dos Santos may not have gotten as much of a shot at Barcelona as he could have, but their loss is Tottenham’s gain.

Arsenal are already reportedly in the frame for Mallorca star Dani Guiza, but the Gunners could also be pursuing another Spaniard in Ruben de la Red, who spent last season at Getafe, but is currently Real Madrid’s property.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Both players are in Spain’s Euro 2008 squad, so the current prices (15 million euros for Guiza, 12 million for de la Red) could go up if they make an impression there.

Benfica have rejected three bids from English clubs for star forward Oscar Cardozo, who scored 22 goals for the club in his first season in Portugal. Newcastle offered 25 million euros for the 25-year old Paraguayan (Ed.’s Note: excuse me for calling him Argentinian), while Manchester City and Tottenham offered 15 million.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Well, if they rejected Newcastle’s huge bid (more than double what they paid for him last summer), it’s doubtful they’ll be selling him in the near future.

Ambitious Portsmouth could make a move for young Chelsea striker Ben Sahar, as they look to beef up their front line even more.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Sahar has made only a handful of appearances for Chelsea, but he has shown a lot of promise (two goals in seven appearances for the Israeli senior team).

Portsmouth could also be set to off-load striker David Nugent, though Nugent will have to take a pay-cut to make a 3 million pound move to newly-promoted Hull City.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Take the pay cut, David! You want to have a future, right?

Juventus, Roma, and Fiorentina are all pursuing Italy’s World Cup 2006 hero Fabio Grosso, who had an excellent season with Lyon, but could make a move back to his home country.

Rumor Rating: 3 – All three offer the opportunity for Champions League football, so he wouldn’t have to worry about missing out on something he’d also be a part of if he stayed at Lyon.

Napoli are reportedly interested in Brazilian striker Adriano, who’s currently on loan at Sao Paulo from Inter.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Inter may be willing to negotiate with Napoli, as it could benefit their hopes of signing Marek Hamsik, one of a quartet of players Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in.

Rangers are set to sign Scotland international striker Kenny Miller from 1.9 million pounds from relegated Derby.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Selling Miller and Robert Earnshaw have helped give Paul Jewell some funds to help strengthen his squad for a run at promotion back to the top flight.

Well, that’s it for today – chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow!

No friendly fun for Three Lions quartet
