Transfer Rumors (02 June 08): Essien to Inter, Trochowski to Arsenal, Zambrotta to AC Milan, and more

I apologize if your weekend flew by so quickly, but if it did, I hope you at least had fun. Now, it’s back to business, which means it’s time for Monday’s transfer roundup.

So, Cristiano Ronaldo says that there will be definitive news on his future in two or three days.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Are Manchester United fans headed for disappointment, or will it be an anticlimactic ending, where he pledges his future to the club like many expect him to?

Jose Mourinho is taking over as Inter’s head man, and he could be raiding his old club for one of their star players, as The Sun says he could make a move for Michael Essien.

Rumor Rating: 5 – The report says that he would fork out what Chelsea paid for Essien (24 million pounds), but would that be enough for Chelsea to let him go?

The Sun also says that Blackburn could go for Wolves star Michael Kightly to replace David Bentley, if he goes to Liverpool.

Rumor Rating: 3 – There’s no telling what will happen at Blackburn, with Mark Hughes being linked with Chelsea and Manchester City, so until something happens with the managerial situation, Bentley’s status is undecided.

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a 5 million pound bid for Hamburg SV midfielder Peter Trochowski.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Any Bundesliga followers know much about him? He’s in Germany’s Euro 2008 squad, so that will be an opportunity to see how much of a talent he is.

AC Milan have completed the signing of Gianluca Zambrotta from Barcelona for a fee of 8.5 million euros, bringing the former Juventus star back to Italy.

Rumor Rating: 5 – The Rossoneri have been pretty busy thus far, but they still have more reinforcements to make, namely in net and up front.

One of Europe’s more sought-after managers has found a new home, as former Getafe manager Michael Laudrup is set to take over at Panathinaikos.

Rumor Rating: 5 – He gets to make a lot of money (2.5 million euros per year), play Champions League football and contend for a league title, and doesn’t have to make a long-term commitment (two-year contract). So, he’ll able to jump ship to an even bigger club in the near future without worries about buyout clauses or messy breakups.

Atletico Madrid are looking to make a move for Real Madrid’s Julio Baptista, though their archrivals are going to have to lower their asking price, which is currently at 18 million euros.

Rumor Rating: 5 – ‘The Beast’ hasn’t really been the player at Real Madrid (or Arsenal) that he was at Sevilla, but maybe it’s just a matter of moving to the right place, where he’s assured (well, as long as he’s playing well) of a place in the starting XI.

Sporting have signed Helder Postiga from FC Porto.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Remember when he played for Tottenham? That seems like a long, long time ago, doesn’t it?

Well, it’s that time again – chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back with more tomorrow.

About Trochowski, well first of all his name is Piotr not peter. He’s a product of the Bayern (amature) academy, which has really been outdoing inself. However, we sold him for a meger fee becuz the truth is we never expected that he was going to develop the way he has. He has been playing really well for hamburg over the last two seasons. I think he is able to play on both wings as well as in the middle.
Thats the things with young players sometimes they just need to play consistenly to reach their true potential. I’de be suprised if hamburg let him go for such a small fee because he is a really important player for them especially given that vandevart is also expected to leave.
