Transfer Rumors (01 June 08): Ribery to Liverpool, Guiza to Arsenal, Maloney to Sunderland, and more

Transfer Rumors (01 June 08): Ribery to Liverpool, Guiza to Arsenal, Maloney to Sunderland, and more

It may be the weekend, but that doesn’t mean the transfer rumors are taking a break. There’s plenty still going on, and while there aren’t any deals to report in today’s roundup, a few could be imminent.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to make a big-money bid for Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery, who had a stellar first season in Germany after his big move from Marseille last summer.

Rumor Rating: 2 – The report says that Liverpool could offer 20 million pounds for him, but given his importance to Bayern and what they paid for him (almost 17 million pounds) last summer, that likely wouldn’t be nearly enough to get him.

The Daily Telegraph says that Arsenal could be interested in swooping for Real Mallorca star forward Dani Guiza, who was La Liga’s top scorer this past season with 27 goals – none of which came from the spot. Guiza reportedly has a 15 million euro release clause, so he may not be out of Arsenal’s price range.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Even with the news that Eduardo da Silva could be back earlier than expected, Robin van Persie’s long-term fitness is still a question mark, Theo Walcott is still developing, and Nicklas Bendtner might not be the man Emmanuel Adebayor wants partnering him.

Sunderland are being linked with a potential move for Aston Villa’s Shaun Maloney, who hasn’t had the best of times in the Midlands, and could be on his way out for 4 million pounds.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Maloney had issues both with settling in and getting regular starts at Villa, but is his asking price a little much, given that it’s four times what they paid for him?

On a related note, Aston Villa are pursuing Steve Sidwell, but Chelsea are reportedly going to wait until a new manager comes in before a decision is made on the former Reading man’s future.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Maybe, just maybe, Sidwell will be rated higher by Roberto Mancini/Phil Scolari/Frank Rijkaard/Guus Hiddink than Avram Grant. And if he becomes a Chelsea star, well…

Villa, along with Tottenham, are looking to make a late move for Sampdoria defender Hugo Campagnaro, who could be on his way to Juventus.

Rumor Rating: 4 – Not a surprise to see Tottenham linked with him, is it?

Palermo midfielder Mark Bresciano, who had a move to Manchester City fall through last summer, says he’s still interested in making a move to England.

Rumor Rating: 4 – He was linked with Fulham in the winter, so this might give Roy Hodgson the push to make a move for him.

Gareth Southgate has dismissed the rumors linking young winger Adam Johnson with a move away from the club, saying that the 20-year old is a big part of his plans for the future.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Johnson has had some loan spells in the last couple of seasons, but after impressing in a spell at Watford last season, could be set to be a permanent part of Boro’s first team very soon.

It’s an abbreviated roundup today, but there’ll be plenty to report on come Monday, so chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow.

I wish to know why so many top clubs are after Adebayor?
His scoring to opportunities ratio is, in my opinion, poor.
Had he taken two, Hleb provided opportunities against Man U, we would have won the game and the league.
The Arsenal team provide so many chances that any decent forward should have scored a hatfull.
    Personally he is overarated.

I also heard a rumor that Liverpool could be prepared to add Kuyt into that offer if it’s rejected!! We are also linked with Jones from Sunderland for 10million :)

Totally agree with Timmy on the Adeybayour thing, i’ve been saying the same thing for a while.

Well Liverpool are linked with a lot of players now aren’t we!

Liverpool’s owners have only give Rafa 20million, if you are stuck there wondering were Rafa plans to get money he has already been touted to sell the following:: Intanje, Finnan, Riise, Alonso, Pennant, Kuyt, Crouch and Voronin.

Hahahahaha hahahaha hahahaha, wait let me stop laughing, hahahahahahahhahahhaha. Ribery to liverpool get serious, they have a better chance of getting ronaldo.
Now on a more serious matter we all know adebayor isnt the striker that arsenal needs because he althoug he may score many goals, he is not a big game player. With that said however, stop carrying stories about arsenal buying forwards. Take my word for it, arsenal will not bring in a forward this year he has brought vela back so at this point he actually has too many, its not going to happen this year. By next year wenger may realise that ade is not good enough to carty the side but but then one of the other 3 promising strikers may reach their true potential.
    hahahahahahaha, Ribery to liverpool.

Hi, i know from a good source that Liverpool will bring in 3 Big Name signings totalling 40-50 million as well as more squad players, he will be releasing players to get these big name signings, he will not buy a big name striker, 3 midfielders. He has 30 million plus players that he sells, one name will be introduced before the euro 2008.
    Liverpool for the league.

laugh all you like Liverpool football club as always will have the last laugh. I very much doubt they are even interested in Ribery he will stay with a second rate Bayern Munich side. Have faith in Rafa all you fans he will sign at least three big names this transfer window. Money as always is an issue but between selling players and funds available he will have 60/70 million to spend and trust me he will spend it. As much as you mans may laugh at barry signing please tell me one united midfielder better than him and please scholes is past it. From my sources Dossena is a done deal. Martins also a done deal and we are searching for a top class right sided midfielder. On top of insua coming in to the first team watch out for picheca next year class act. The future is bright we will have the last laugh. WALK ON!!!!

Ray you are right about Pacheco he is an absolute Genius, it’s too bad he is too young and weak to get any first team action yet because he certainly is the type of player Liverpool’s first team need.

Ye i guess he will need to bulk up a bit more yet but we will see him in the carling cup next season. Looks good though. Id be Shocked this year if we do not bring in big names along with a few bargain buys. Lets be honest players like Ribery is what we need now and in fairness playing with a second rate bayern team in a second rate league or playing for one of the world greats its not much to think about really…… YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE.

Benitez expects to get a 70million kitty and he desires to bring in 2 really Top players in and replace the Sales for slightly better players. If you want a laugh read Riise wikipedias page it says schalke are considering a straight swap for Rafinha :) if that were true it would be the bargain of the centuary!! I mean the worst Rafinha could do would be knock us out of the CL right?

LIVERPOOL FAN-Liverpool should not relax. We have to buy as many good players we can so that we SHOULD win a silver ware next season. To finish a season without a silver ware on the shelf is shamefull to a big team like liverpool!

Alan…do you really think rafa should blow his transfer budget on 4 right wingers???

I agree though ribery, quaresma and villa would be great signings and they would be interested in coming to liverpool. also… what has happened to Adriano??? surely he is worth a punt id say he could be bought for a couple of million proly get enough money from selling voronin! and if he gets back to his true potential he’ll be one of the best strikers in the world with his skill, pace and power. it’s unbelievable that nobody seems to want him now!

Well said boys keep the good work up i have seen pretty good comments and arguments between Bayern & Liverpool, well its time for some real facts if you really want to argue about- If you remember Bayern are the worst side i feel in the Bundes liga, they buy all the top material available in Germany and still dont win the title ( its rarely that they do it) you see the likes of Bayern’s players in 2006-07 – Podolski – Best young player of the world cup,Bastian Schweinstiger – trailblazing shots and neat crosses,Oliever Kahn – the big man is the best goalkeeper available in the land,Lucio – tall and strong but all his assets failed to stop strikers,Van Buyten – the Belgian was all over the place with no suitble position,Phillip Lahm – inspite of extra ordinary skills to control the RB & RM side he failed to aspire,Willy Sagnol – the French man is the same as Lahm but now we can call him a veteran,Owen Hargreaves – The English holding midfielder left Bayern because they were excluded from the CL spot,Roque Santa Cruz – Inspite of such good composure the Paraguaian dipressed us all,Claudio Pizzaro – simply overrated i dont know why did Mourinho sign him,Roy Makaay – The veteran did what he could do but that wasn’t enough – now,Mr.Bayern Forever can you see the distance between you and CL atleast Liverpool managed to get there easily eventhough fighting a side like Everton. At present it’s only Gerrard and Torres at liverpool, so as Ribery & Toni at Bayern, you must be ashamed Mr.Bayern forever for arguing against one of the most fighting and determined team like Liverpool. As far as Ribery is concerned he would change his club as a manager like Mourinho could reject offers from Germany and France why would someone stay where no body is spotlighting the team.Any way Ribery would be fantastic signing for the Reds but only if they pay Bayern more then 25$.Hope you agree with me.
