Transfer Gossip: Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Manchester City, Chelsea, West Ham, AC Milan, Juventus, FC Barcelona, Birmingham City, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Strasbourg, Valencia, Real Zaragoza
Today’s top transfer rumours:
The biggest transfer gossip in the English press is the alleged interest of Arsenal in AC Milan youngster Yoann Gourcuff. The Daily Telegraph has reported that Arsene Wenger is keen on having a second bite at the French cherry after missing out on the French starlet in 2006 when he moved to Milan instead from Stade Rennais.
Gourcuff has have the label of the next Zidane stuck on him ever since he displayed exhibition stuff in French Ligue 1 but the 21-year lad’s inability to seep into the Milan first team has somehow dampened his long term prospect at the club.
All is not looking good at Liverpool these days. The club could well bow out of the UEFA Champions League on Tueday when they play Olympique de Marseille away from home and might well lose out anchorman midfielder Javier Mascherano. The player has been one of the best players in this Liverpool side since joining them on loan from fellow Premiership rivals West Ham United in January 2007 but Liverpool are unable to make the complicated loan deal a permanent one. Inter Milan are said to be in the running to acquire the Argentine international’s signature. Juventus too are reported to be interested in the player.
Could Manchester United be without goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar by the time the next season starts? There has been a considerable report in the Spanish press that FC Barcelona are contemplating on a summer bid for the Dutch custodian. Man United are also in hot competition for Steven Jovetic, the teenage striker at Partizan Belgrade. Manchester City are reported to be interested in importing the player to the City of Manchester Stadium and the likes of Real Madrid and Valencia too have demonstrated considerable interest in the player.
Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce meanwhile is desperate to bring on new players on board as soon as the January transfer window opens. Newcastle have been struggling for points and are not in the best of positions to compete for a UEFA Cup position at all. Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish though is ready to splash out more cash to lure better players to St.Andrew’s and save his team from relegation. And so are Derby County, who have been demonstrating considerable inclination to sign young center-half Ryan Shawcross from Manchester United.
Moving on to matters in Europe and Bayern Munich’s long serving full-back Willy Sagnol is being tipped to join AC Milan. Controcampo has reported that the 30-year Frenchman has fallen out with his Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and has espressed a desire to move onto Milan.
Juventus are again in the news with Turin-based and Juventus supporting Tuttosport reporting that Juve are planning to sell Marcelo Zalayeta to Naploli in exchange for Napoli’s Slovakia midfielder Marek Hamsik.
While some Italian press reports have stated that Ronaldo is not too comfortable with life at AC Milan and would be looking for a move to the MLS before soon, his agent has dismissed all such talks and says that Ronaldo is happy with the Rossoneri and would do on playing there. Livorno striker Diego Tristan meanwhile has said that at one point he could have joined AS Roma but is happy at Livorno now.
Real Madrid sacked Fabio Capello at the end of last season for playing too ugly and playing too too defensively but Bernd Schuster appears to be on defender hunting-spree. The Spanish giants are said to be chasing Strasbourg defender Habib Bellaid and could launch abid as early as January.
Valencia striker David Villa is once again linked with a move to Chelsea but the Spanish international striker has waved off such rumours once again and says that he and he team mates need to focus on the current season now.
Villa says:
I don’t feel under any more pressure because of something mentioned on TV or on the radio or in the papers,” All I am thinking about at the moment is how we as a club can move forward and improve our performances.
Real Zaragoza meanwhile have expressed eagerness to make striker Ricardo Oliveira’s temporary stay at the club to a permanent one. The Brazilian striker is on-loan from AC Milan for a year but the Spanish club are ready to sign him for good.
