Transfer News Roundup - Tottenham, Manchester United, Real Madrid

A quick update on the transfer news tonight:

Tottenham

Tottenham have sold Andy Reid to Charlton for a 3 mil fee.

As far as their left-wing and right-back issues are concerned, there is little expectation that Tottenham will renew their interest in Wigan’s Chimbonda, while Tottenham’s interest in Downing seems to have cooled as well.

Manchester United

No more developments on the Owen Hargreaves situation, although considering that the news is less than a day old we might want to lay off it and let Manchester United comment on it first (as Bayern have already move to deny that they would be selling their midfielder). SportsBild has put the figure at 17 mil although other sources are putting it at a more conservative 13 mil. Whatever it is, Hargreaves would be the perfect foil for Carrick in Manchester United’s midfield.

Hopefully United will talk about this tomorrow. Hargreaves is the only credible option left, as Diarra has already said that he would move for Real Madrid and not Manchester United.

Phil Bardsley has moved to Rangers for a season-long loan. While this will be good experience for him it means that John O’Shea will be moved to right-back as backup for Neville. Either that, or we might see Wes Brown at right-back. Manchester United for their part will benefit next season when a host of young players return from loan and vie for starting berths.

Real Madrid

By the end of this month Real Madrid’s transfer signings could read something like this:

Cannavaro, Emerson, Nistelrooy, Reyes and Diarra.

Add Casillas, Ramos, Baptista (if he stays), Cicinho, Beckham and Robinho/Ronaldo/Raul and you have a first-11 that could beat any team on its day. Real Madrid, under Capello, can truly become a European force once again. Their cause has been helped with both Reyes and now Diarra saying that they desperately want to play for Real Madrid.

Read Diarra’s interview to L’Equipe (where he complains about Lyon refusing to talk to Real Madrid) here.

Hey, I did say that this would be quick…By the way we’re looking for writers with the new season about to start so hit this page and talk to me.

  1. they may reap the benefits next season, but what about this season. i am a firm believe that you need 2 in each position. so whose there to cover the captain? wes isnt a full back, his crosses are horrifying, and o’shea, well i think if he could returrn to the form of when he debuted, he would be great but i think he has been used and abused in recent years, that he seem to forgot the tricks of playing in a specified position.

  2. Well, Mark, o Shea was one of our best players last season. He did a terrific job last season in mid field. Whenever he played as right back in the season before that, he was great.

As now we al know. Hargreaves agent has sought talks with Bayern. This could be interesting. Hargraeaves could do good to the team. I wish United reach atleast the semifinal stage of the CL this season. That would make more high profile players get interested in United. Then we might be able to get in a real quality striker.
