According to The Sun, Barcelona’s Eidur Gudjohnsen could be set for a return to the Premier League with West Ham, Portsmouth and Manchester City all interested in signing the former Chelsea striker. Why he would want to leave the comfort of Barcelona’s bench and the high wages is beyond me though.


Arsenal are watching Villarreal’s Martin Caceres, currently at loan with Recreativo in La Liga according to The Sun.

Manchester City

According to The Sun Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is trying to prise Partizan Belgrade teenager Stevan Jovetic away from rivals Manchester United. Furthermore the same paper reports that Eriksson is closing in on £10m-rated Russian international Roman Pavlyuchenko – the striker whose two goals have left England’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008 in tatters.

Moreover according to the Daily Mail Manchester City will sign Brazil striker Afonso Alves from Heerenveen in the January transfer window. The 26-year-old forward has agreed to the move and will arrive for a fee expected to be £7million.

Manchester United

According to the Daily Mirror Atletico Madrid are hopeful of signing Manchester United defender Gerard Pique on loan in January ahead of a permanent deal.

Moreover according to the Daily Star and The Times Mexican keeper Guillermo Ochoa is keen on a £7m move to Manchester United.

West Ham United

According to The Sun West Ham could bid £5m for Panathinaikos’s Brazilian midfielder Marcelo.

Newcastle United

According to The Sun, Newcastle are considering an £8m bid for out-of-favour Villarreal midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme.

Moreover The Magpies are also after £8m-rated Russia skipper Andrei Arshavin according to the Daily Mirror.

Derby County

Derby want to sign out-of-favour Celtic defender Bobo Balde in January according to The Daily Star.


According to The Independent, Chelsea are in talks with 17-year-old Brazilian striker Lulinha – dubbed the new Ronaldinho – over an £8m move from Corinthians.


Juventus are reportedly considering a move for Portsmouth striker Benjani. The Zimbabwean has been prolific for the south coast club this season and is currently topping the Premiership hotshots with eight goals.The Italian giants would bid around £7m, according to the Daily Mirror.
