Tottenham’s Next Manager – Definitely Not Wenger

I know things are bad for Ramos at the moment but surely they can’t be this bad that bookies are now accepting bets for Arsene Wenger to replace him?

Here are the latest odds (from Paddy Power, hat tip to The Offside and F365):

4/1 Poyet
8/1 Hughes
10/1 Bilic, Rijkaard
12/1 Ranieri, Klinsmann, Redknapp
14/1 Mancini
18/1 Moyes, Venables
20/1 Keegan, Jol, Mourinho
25/1 Deschamps, Houllier, Donadoni
28/1 Hoddle, Avram Grant
33/1 Shearer
40/1 Strachan
50/1 Brown, Kinnear
100/1 Wenger

Poyet will probably be the caretaker manager in case things go south, so he’s an easy bet. Apart from him there’s not such a wide field of candidates to choose from. Kinnear is a joke, Jol is happy at Hamburg, Mourinho is happy at Inter, Klinsmann is fully committed to Bayern, Bilic is tied to Croatia till 2010 and will not ‘split’ duties, as West Ham found out earlier this season. Moyes has just signed a new contract with Everton and Hughes is fresh at Man City, Redknapp is doing relatively well at Pompey and refused the chance to join a troubled club (Newcastle) last season, I doubt he’ll survive (or be accepted) at White Hart Lane.

Discounting Wenger, no other ‘currently’ employed manager would jump for Tottenham except perhaps Strachan (Brown has had a great start to the season and would not want to pack things in just yet), and even that’s a very long shot (although if Celtic exit the Champions League then it’s a possibility). Oh yes, there’s the Tinkerman as well.

This leaves us with the following: Rijkaard, Ranieri, Mancini, Venables, Keegan, Donadoni, Houiller, Hoddle, Grant, Shearer.

Given Tottenham’s ambitions (it’s a touchy topic but they still have legitimate ambitions, regardless of how far they are from realising them), Rijkaard fits the bill perfectly. The other candidates are either tired re-runs (Hoddle, Venables, Houiller, Keegan) or not good enough (Ranieri, Donadoni, Grant) or just jokes (Shearer).

So, 10/1 for Frank Rijkaard being announced as the next permanent Tottenham manager – any takers?

In all fairness, I think Ramos will be able to turn Tottenham around and not only survive this season in the Premier League but also put them through a nice run in the UEFA Cup. He needs to replace King on the field and in the dressing room, he needs another striker and he needs a midfield enforcer.

There are some things that he needs to fix in the players’ minds but the problems on the pitch (especially the King and central midfield issues) haven’t been fixed for several years now and you can’t fault Ramos for that.

if Roy Evans is available he will be the best person for the job. With the influex of foreign and british talent in Spurs Roy experience in managing multi nationaled Liverpool would come in hand if he is not then the next best would be Roy Keane for obvious reasons followed by Kevin Keegan. If anyone can solve this mess that will be Super Kev…

I dont think Arsene Wenger would be that stupid to throw away his cemented legend status in Arsenal folklore and join their fiercely hated rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. Arsene Wenger is Arsenal. Even his name has 3/4 of Arsenal in it. There are only a few things in this world money can’t buy and one of them is the name fame and status Arsene Wenger has earned when reforming Arsenal into the superpower they are now
ps* Look what happened to George Graham.

Let’s just forget about being in the top 4 this season. Let Ramos stay and pray real hard he gets the players he wants in January (hopefully the better players would be interseted in coming over, looks bleak though!)If he gets us through this season without dropping to the lower division, I think he might just be able to take Spurs to greater heights. We have changed so many managers and players over the last 10 seasons, we really need to stop this “merry-go-around-the bush” business!!!! C’mon JR, you got to do something right now, stand up to Levy and demand what you require for January and just make do with what you have now. Sell off Bently, he’s bad for morale right now (even though he’s right but comments like that should not be expressed in public). I am only a supporter but I still feel proud when I wear the THFC jersey so passing a comment like that was uncalled for. He may not have meant it or it may have been taken out of context which is regularly done to dramatize a situation but still out of place for a player to speak about his manager of fellow players that way. I am not going to suggest who to buy as my thoughts will not even be considered so I will only say, LET’S KEEP IT TOGETHER, STOP THE BAD-MOUTHING AND FINGER POINTING AND GET ON WITH THE JOB OF WINNING GAMES!!!!! Please please please for us die-hard Spurs supporters!
