Tottenham still scouting Christian Eriksen

Ajax attacking-midfielder Christian Eriksen has remained a transfer target for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur throughout this summer.

The 21-year old’s contract with the Dutch Eredivisie champions expires at the end of this season, and it doesn’t look like he will be extending his stay with Ajax.

A number of sides have been in the market for the Danish international for a number of years – most notably Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham of the Premier League.

‘I will only go where my heart wants to go. I am patiently waiting what will happen in the next few weeks. But I have said before I only want to go to a club where I feel I can play at my best and which suits my style.’ – Christian Eriksen.

His asking price is said to be around the £12M mark, but Ajax are keen to cash in on him rather than risk losing the midfielder for nothing next summer, so they could accept a lower bid.

Last season, he scored 10 goals in 33 Eredivisie games, while grabbing 17 assists. He’s already started the 2013/14 campaign in similar fashion, with a goal and assist in his opening two league games for the Dutch side.

Making 33 appearances for the Denmark national team, Eriksen has eyed a move to a big European side for 12 months.

‘Christian is one of the best midfielders and one of the biggest talents in Europe. I think before the transfer window closes we will witness a big transfer.’’ – Eriksen’s agent Soren Lerby.

Before he even became a professional, the 21-year old held trials with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, and Chelsea.

Tottenham scouts were said to have been watching him in a number of league games this campaign, and manager Andres Villas-Boas has previously revealed his admiration for the youngster.

  1. All very nice. If this continues we will be able to run a shop for clubs to rent a midfielder (or pair) on any weekend.
Get to the point and secure the forwards so badly needed. It seems that well-known attackers are reluctant to consider a move to Spurs.
Why can’t we find a diamond in the rough like Benteke or Carroll or that Italian import who was scouted by one of the poorer clubs? We always fall for the media darlings of the moment–Pavlyuchenko, Adebayor, Postiga. We could do a lot worse than bringing back the Bulgarian who has great ball handling skills and is very smooth around goal

    • Man, the spurs have 3 strikers, Soldado, Adebayor and Defoe. Now i understand Adebayor has been shit the past year but Defoe can fill in for Soldado and worst comes to worst Chadli and Bale are able to play striker. The Spurs aren’t only after Eriksen but Alderweireld, strengthing the back 4 which we crucially need more than a striker and Eriksen is one of the brightest prospects in Europe and can be sold for a greater price if need be. I say the Spurs crucially need a CB and a LB which they intend to fill with Alderweireld and Coentrao, getting Eriksen is icing on the cake.

  2. I don’t see Eriksen transferring to the Spurs… Eriksen has been very vocal in the Dutch media about only wanting to transfer to a team that plays Champions League. Which I think is a reasonable demand for a player with his skills and talent. A few demands he has been very specific on in the Dutch media:

-he wants to play Champions League
-he wanst a place with the first 11
-only wants clubs that suit his playing style

Further more I don’t think Ajax will accept a bid lower then £12M. Eriksen has been very clear that he would like to play in a bigger league, but he also wants Ajax to cash in on his move. Also he stated he ‘wouldn’t mind staying at Ajax if no acceptable offers come in’. And in case he stays, he will probably sign a new contract so Ajax can cash in whenever he leaves in the future…
