Tottenham board members are fools for wanting to kick Jol out now
The Guardian (eager beavers that they are) and the BBC are both talking about Martin Jol being out of favour with the Tottenham board and the Guardian goes a step further, saying that the Tottenham board have sounded out Juande Ramos and now the Sevilla manager is waiting for an official offer from Tottenham.
At this point I don’t know what to think. It seems a bit ridiculous that the board would back a manager so strongly in the transfer season, see that several first-teamers are injured and then prepare to sack the manager based on the results of the first three games (I wrote about this in detail yesterday as well).
It’s not as if Tottenham have suddenly turned around and starting playing worse. The problems seen against Sunderland and Everton are problems that have been a steady staple of Martin Jol’s stewardship. Levy would have seen that, the fans have seen it and the board, if they are worth their positions, will know that as well. The decision to replace Martin Jol, especially if the board don’t think that Jol can break into the top four, should have been taken at the end of last season and not now.
It’s possible that this has been going on for some time but as far as business and football is concerned, sacking Martin Jol would be a ridiculous move - if Levy and co. wanted this done they could and should have done it in May.
Another question arises: Should Tottenham cut their losses now? On one hand, Jol isn’t a bad manager, and Tottenham aren’t a bad club. On the other hand, Ramos (or whoever comes in) cannot change things immediately and it’s a risk to bring him in, BUT from his track record alone he’s a better manager than Martin Jol and I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that if he took over NOW, he would lead Tottenham to a better league position than Jol could.
Having said that, don’t see why Ramos would leave Sevilla at this point, and can’t understand how the Tottenham board could have been so thick as to back Jol and not see the problems last season (if indeed they are pushing to replace him).
I’d like to think that it’s a way to put pressure on Jol and get him to step up, while arranging for him to be replaced at the end of the 07/08 season. Still, we can’t be sure, so let’s wait and see how this one turns out.

I can’t understand how this has gathered so much pace, its simply seems to me like a big case of chinese whispers. I haven’t actually seen any statements from Spurs Board, Martin Jol or Ramos to add any fuel to these rumours. I’ve even just seen this article which further supports the fact this is just the usual rubbish that’s printed. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=A1YourView&xml=/sport/2007/08/21/ufnspurs121.xml
why is there always hype about spurs every bloody day?
m jol this berbatov that. Havent papers got anything else better to print? I work at spurs in the vip boxes and believe me this is all nonsense. Yeah m jol hasnt had the best starts to the season. What about manchester united? I dont see any speculation sorounded ferguson for the chop!
Trust me all spurs fan’s its paper and internet talk. M jol is going know where. Ramos can shut up and stay in spain where he belongs. Berbatov stay at spurs and hope your back soon in light training and for every newspaper print something better that is true or shut up.

Also bring on Man u this sunday!
is it not that jol will be taking over the dutch national team after euro 2008, are the board not therefore, looking after tottenham’s interests first and have decided that they may not make top 4 this season, so make it a season of transistion(another one)and bring a new man in early, inorder that next season can be one in which we break into the top 4.
OMG, the dutch national team will not be taking over by jol. Because Marco van Basten is doing great and if there is someone going to take it over it would be foppe de haan
Its great to see Tottenham have got themselves another board with more money than sense! Despite, them giving Jol all that money, bringing another manager in would mean selling and spending all over again! I remember a team called Leeds that used to work like this??
Not so long ago ppl have been laughing at Arsenal for having a unstable board. Don’t be surprise when all these rumours became true and your star striker Berbatov may leave for Man U. No clubs will put up any information until everything is completed and done. wHO KNOWS what are the clubs are doing now? For we can only wait and hope for the best>..
Oh yes.. if BBC can say something like that , it is likely that the situation is more than 50% true. Good luck to you SPuds.
