Tottenham are ALMOST there
Tottenham have a very, very good squad and while they still need some work, they now have almost all the players they need to make a genuine challenge for the Champions League spots.
Spurs have pulled out all the stops in improving the squad and if they can bring in two more players this summer (left-wing and central mid), they will have a complete squad that could easily hold it’s own against the top 4.
The other potential problem could be Martin Jol’s tactical ability, but that’s a debatable topic and in these situations you have to give your managers time to work with the players. Martin Jol has a great chance this season, he would do well to make the best of it.
Manager Status: Martin Jol is well-loved at Tottenham and the club and fans have faith in him to lead Tottenham into the top-four. You need a lot more than faith though.
Transfer Analysis: Tottenham have been the highest net spenders so far (I think), and they’ve brought in quality players, for sure. For the first time in Martin Jol’s spell at Spurs he will have players on the bench he can rely on and depth in quantity and quality is a must if you want to challenge for the Champions League.
Tottenham could still do with a left-winger though, and an experienced central midfielder.
Players to watch: Bale and Bent.
August Fixtures: Away to Sunderland, home to Everton and Derby and away to Manchester United. Not a bad start to the season, and Spurs will be hoping for a minimum of 9 points from August.
Expectations: Realistically, 5th. If you listen to the fans, 4th.
Predictions: 5th-8th – good enough to be 5th, but other teams could push them hard.

“If you listen to the media making up lies about Spurs fans, 4th.”
Fixed it for you.
August 10th, 2007 @ 01:05Spurs spent more than Man U and Liverpool?! I don’t think so! Esp as we’ll get money for Mido, Murphy and prob Ghaly too!
August 10th, 2007 @ 00:04down to 6th
August 10th, 2007 @ 01:28Not convinced. I think they still lack enough world class players to make it into the top 4. They have a good squad and it gels pretty well. But other than in attack, man for man they are weaker than Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U.
August 10th, 2007 @ 05:49i think, if bent shines, berbatov and bent upfront, with aron lennon in either wing, might be a force to be reckond with, as long as they buy a lefet mid
August 10th, 2007 @ 11:33“If you listen to the media making up lies about Spurs fans, 4th.â€
Actually, I could point you to hundreds of comments made by Spurs fans just on SL that claim that Spurs would beat Arsenal to 4th spot. It’s been going on since 05/06. Deal with it.
August 10th, 2007 @ 16:33Yeah you bloody Spurs fans deal with it, were the better North-London club.
August 10th, 2007 @ 19:01Spuds wont come 4th, 5th beckons, maybe Newcastle can over-take them so 6th sounds good! Ha
Bent looks on great form im a little jealous we didnt get him to match with Torres but its ok
.
Anyway i think Both Spurs and Arsenal will do better so i dont want to hazard a guess between 2 fantastic teams
August 10th, 2007 @ 20:02SUNDERLAND 1-0 TOTTENHAM…….Enough said
August 11th, 2007 @ 19:27I agree with everything everyone has said here.
Its been a day now. Where are the Spurs fans? Oh that’s right, there’s a WHOLE SPECIAL ARTICLE on how crap they did in another section, so they’re all over there putting out the fires in the comments section. Honest to God, i ACTUALLY THOUGHT that they would do well against Sunderland. Hope Arsenal can do better against Keano.
Go Gunners!!!
