The Premier League sacking race started with two causalities in the same day as Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat resigned from his role at the club and Brendan Rodgers was sacked from Liverpool following poor results.

With these two managers being shown the door, the question lies with whose job is on the chopping block next?

Here is a top four of predicted managers whose jobs are in jeopardy:

4. Jose Mourinho (Chelsea)

Despite the Special One being noted as one of the best managers in the world, Chelsea’s title defence has been well below standards. The champions of England currently sit 16th in the league with one eight points from a potential twenty-four, made up of only two wins and two draws.

Whilst Mourinho has received a vote of confidence from the Chelsea boardroom, results will need to improve quickly if the manager is to lead the club into future seasons.

3. Quique Flores (Watford)

Although Watford’s return to the top flight has been solid Quique Flores remains as one of the favourites in Premier League sack race. This could be due to a forecasted outcome for the newly promoted side, but Flores has shown that his side are not ones to be taken lightly this season.

Currently sitting tenth with two wins and four draws from eight matches, Flores’ job looks secure for now. However, bookies are certain that out of all three of his newly promoted counterparts; he will be the first to be shown the door this season.

2. Tim Sherwood (Aston Villa)

Having led the side out of a relegation scrap and to an FA Cup final, you would think Sherwood would have some form of job security going into this season. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with the manager admitting to having ‘sleepless nights’ regarding his future at Villa Park.

After heavy investment in the summer, the board are demanding results, which hasn’t been forthcoming for the English manager. Villa is currently sitting 18th with one win and one draw to their name after eight games. Sherwood will need to turn results around soon if he is to remain at the helm of the Villans.

1. Steve McClaren (Newcastle United)

The Newcastle boss now leads as the favourite for next Premier League manager to get the sack. Whilst McClaren only took over the Toon a few months ago, their start to the Premier League season has been very disappointing and sees them at the bottom of the table.

Without a win in eight games, the pressure is mounting on McClaren to improve results or he may be called into the boardroom one last time. After suffering relegation once in the 2008/09 season, Newcastle does not wish to be sent down to the Championship again, in order to save their season McClaren might be sacrificed.
