Time for Leicester City to Sell Jamie Vardy?

Jamie Vardy

Leicester City were threatened by English Premier League relegation at this time last season, however, Jamie Vardy, scored the goals to keep them afloat. A year later, his double, alongside his many goals before, look to have all but secure EPL title glory. The Foxes were the least favourite to win the title this season, however, Vardy’s goalscoring heroics, and manager Claudio Ranieri’s brilliant management, has ensured that they’re all but across the finish line. Vardy, a 29-year-old forward, has proved to be one of the best players in world football, but it might be time for the club to cash in on their asset and sell him, after EPL glory, of course. Why, you ask?

It’s highly unlikely to get any better than EPL glory for Leicester, however, Vardy, is a veteran, and his form might improve for another season, but then should rapidly decrease during his thirties, meaning the near £45 million they could get for him now would turn in to a mere £10 million in a few seasons. If the Foxes are confident they can contend again, and don’t need the money, they can keep Vardy, however, if they feel that’s too much cash for a forward that’s ageing and cost them a mere 1 million, then now might be time to end the fairytale. Can they win the title? There’s some great odds at the moment, get one here and enjoy your success alongside the Foxes.

Footballing sense, it makes to keep him, but business sense, he’s highly unlikely to ever be worth a fee of this region ever again, and the Foxes wouldn’t be too far off the right decision if they decide to sell him this summer.

He proved his worth all over again in their recent 2-0 win over Sunderland, where the forward netted a second-half double, proving the Foxes are still aiming for big things, and that he’s still up there with the best of them.

The message was simple from boss Claudio, who insisted, “Come on Jamie, we need you! I need you!,”.

They have needed him, but is the climax? Can Vardy continue these heroics in to his thirties, and can he keep the club in contention? Both feats are highly unlikely, and by selling him now, they’d cash in at the right time, and he’d get the high wage packet he rightfully deserves, and will find hard to receive in his thirties if his goalscoring count decreases.

The manager continued to back him, saying, “It is important for Jamie Vardy to score because he made some good assists in the last game but he is our goalscorer and he needed to score again and I am very happy with him,” he added following the game.”

He went on to say “Now we have two tough matches at home, the Champions League is on the table and we have to keep it. We don’t achieve nothing yet. We have to stay calm, be focused, strong, solid and keep going. You make this job for the emotion you feel inside but it is difficult for me to tell what kind of emotion. Today we made some mistakes, we still have to look at what is not right.”

The right thing might just be to sell Vardy. This will pain the Foxes to hear, but he won’t be a superstar as he begins to slow down. He’s built on his pace, and his goalscoring will decrease sooner or later.

It’s okay for a club like Manchester United to sit and endure their player, Wayne Rooney’s, decline, but the Foxes can’t afford to do that on or off the field.

While the player and club will become EPL champions in the coming weeks, and he’ll jet off to Euro 2016, it’ll be time to cash in afterwards.

If it makes money, it makes sense, and this sale might be too good to turn down.
