A lot of this article reads true, however there are only a handful of players I feel any compasion toward. Players such as Gelson, who signed from smaller clubs with the belief that with hard training and good performances (as he showed in his first season) they could play for there national sides and improve as players. Similar with Scott Parker, who wasn't desperate to leave Charlton but it was a substantial fee and he would have felt a little as though he owed Charlton and Chelsea were still in the building faze.

Players such as Steve Sidwell deserve to rot in the reserves, he was a good midfielder, who had he stayed at Reading improved even more possibly to the cusp of the national team. Instead, he went for the money and unfortunatley Reading were done out of the money as he left on a free. Benjani shouldn't have left Pompey.

I can see the point made in this article but I just dont feel as if it can be justified, as so many players go for the money. Players such as Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor, no-one can defend leaving Champions League football for the Europa League, everyone knew Robinho went for the money.

"Benjani’s move from Portsmouth was a long drawn out affair that was only completed at the thirteenth hour (it would have been the eleventh but he missed his flight)"

I don't know whether it's your recall ability or your research ability that produces that but that's the sort of line that makes a great article for me.

Really good reflection on what goes on when the billionaires arrive. Maybe that's why so many players are reluctant to make the move and many others get burnt.

It's a bit of a tradegy of the modern game really.
