Perhaps i should have been a bit clearer concerning Mascherano, I am a big fan of his, as i stated in the piece he has been arguably our best player this season. The worry i have is that this is another 18m that the owners can point to, and it doesnt actually solve a massive problem (ie the lack of quality wingers). if benitez will have more funds to spend in the summer then mascherano will be a massive asset, but extra funds are not guaranteed, and i think benayoun, kewell & pennant are more urgently in need of an upgrade. Alonso has silky passing skills. Gerrard is one of the best box to box midfielders in the world. So the midfield is absolutely fine. Torres is a world class striker. Reina is a great keeper.
