And how can people say that Essien is more important than Lampard on the back of last season?!? We managed for a large part of the season without Essien, whilst Lampard single-handedly won us games (Fulham away, anyone?) when the rest of the squad was under performing.

Great read.

Agree with the Lampard choice but Drogba is in a very close second, especially on current form. Chelsea struggled with just Anelka against the other top teams last season. If Lampard was out, Deco and Ballack could together do a reasonable job of keeping the midfield ticking. With Drogba out, we would lack a true finisher.

Vermaelen, tall? He is the shortest of Arsenal’s back four! He also gave 3 chances through being muscled out by ferllaini on day 1. Reminders of Ajax disasters last year! Fortunately the chances were wasted. If Arsenal lose Gallas, they actually have NO centre halves.

We will definitely find out if you are right about Cattermole. Probably the most violent player in British football since Duncan Ferguson (Cana pushes him close), he should collect more cards than a canasta pack!

Er….. has anyone heard of Brede Hangeland? Fulham could have got £20 million. They preferred the player!

Otherwise pretty good assessment. Altidore is destined to be one of the world’s top players!

personally think cech is more important than lampard, there are some good covers for the lampard role.

I agree, its tight but Essien is more important to Chelsea than Lampard, judging by how they are when he’s injured.

Agree with most of your choices Luke but it’s early days and, as a team game, you have to argue that if you’re too dependent on 1 individual then you’re probably in trouble anyway…but I know what you mean.

Had to smile at Torres “the diminutive Spaniard”..He’s 6’1″!
