By the way after I mentioned this article to a friend, I was told there are similar pieces like this one, which make fun of Premiership players in ‘diary’ form, most of them on Football365.com.

I suppose I worry that Soccerlens will just turn into Caughtoffside, when Soccerlens is clearly a far better source of well-versed football analysis.

The only way to figure out if the writers can do both things properly is to get them to try and do both things.

This writer decided to go for comedy, which he pulled off amazingly well. A lot of the other writers went for serious, which some of them also did really well, but they basically had 0 humour.

I think that Ahmad should ask the top 5 to write another article. Just to see how much they want it. And it should be a completely different one from the one they wrote.

So this writer would write an in depth serious article.

While the others would write funny ones.

I still think this one is the best though.

yes hugo, i think you are the only one that wants a serious article to win.

soccerlens already has some brilliant serious writers. so some comic relief would be great imho.

Don’t mean to be a party pooper (and for the record, I found this hilarious) but I am sure that not everyone believes that such an article should win a writing competition and the chance to start up a football blog. Yes, it is well-written and funny, but is the article pertinent or accurate? And does it demonstrate the ability to lay out analysis? I don’t mean to say that the writer is not very talented, or that this article should not be considered… but am I the only one who would rather see the award go to a “serious” article?
