Couldn't agree more, Clare.
Certain sports (especially women's sports and in particular, women's football) are in dire need of exposure and support. To succeed as a sporting nation, there needs to be backing right through from schools/grassroots up to olympic/world cup level.

This is music to my ears! Sport can only get better and hopefully niche sports such as womens football will get more exposure that it deservedly needs?!

@chris - I would have to disagree with your comments. Yes we have under achieved in some sports over the years (most notably football) but in general we are a highly successful sporting nation especially when considering our population and resources when compared to the powerhouses of the US, Russia and China. A few examples off the top of my head:

*Beijing olympics - 4th overall

*Fina World Champs (just finished) - 3rd overall

*Rugby World Cups - Finalists 3 times in last 5 comps and winner in 2003 (compare to someone like NZ-we have a far superior record)

..and so on. Half the problem is the negative attitude in this country towards sport and success as demonstrated by Chris.

let's face it: england's still pretty rubbish at everything... let's see if an englishman or an england team can win something on the international stage. then you can say british sport is on the up.
