We do need instant replay & the ball chip. It takes 30 secs or more to restart the game when there is a foul especially when the guys are faking on the pitch , I'am sure it would take much less time for the 5th official to check and relay the outcome to the referee. We're also in a business where the outcome of a game could cost the club millions of dollars in the long run.

It's fine to use the technology to show whether the ball crossed the goal line, but Adidas have said all along that if the system is a success it can also be used to tell the referee whether the ball has crossed any boundary line, such as the touchline. Once we go down this road there's no knowing where it will stop.

Once thing is certain - complaints about referees will remain high; they'll just be about other things. For example, some people want video referees, but look at the controversy this caused at the rugby world cup. People love a good moan, particularly towards authority, and technology won't stop them.

If Fifa wants to keep the game away from technology, this is a bad idea, they might as well use video replays during the matches to help referees do their job. I personally believe the game should stay as it is now. The use of technology takes away the essence of classic football; something that playing on turf field also does. Fifa should reconsider this idea before is too late, or next world cup we'll be having timeouts to review plays.

"Such a chip would have come in handy in that infamous Champions League semi between Liverpool and Chelsea, when Luis Garcia’s shot may or may not have been cleared before it went across the line..."

Previously unbroadcast footage may or may not clear up the matter.
