Randomn variation and luck play a bigger part in scoring and conceding goals than most people are willing to believe. If you track the big four since 2000 you can see their goals conceded vary greatly with no real pattern. I think stats can tell us more about football than the average fan thinks - the challenge is collecting the data, analysising it and decided what is useful. I don't remember a season with so many so called 'park the bus' games. It's been a story of Utd. winning 1-0 and the rest of the top 4 failing to break down the defence often enough...so far. Something similar to what Arsene Wenger wanted.
