The Best Transfers of Summer 2009
Who was the best signing of summer 2009? With price tags like 80m for Cristiano Ronaldo, 50-odd million for Kaka, 35m for Benzema and of course, 40m + Eto’o for Ibrahimovic, it becomes difficult to measure the effectiveness of a transfer just in terms of the team’s performances. Ronaldo does far more for Real Madrid than score goals, and buying Ibra gave Barcelona the bonus of getting rid of Eto’o.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Karim Benzema, Arjen Robben and Mario Gomez all feature in the top 20, but there’s no place for Kaka, and there are some unexpected names at the top of the list.

Very flawed formula which essentially means nothing.
Benzema has largely been a disappointment at Real and where is Valencia of Utd?
And there is no place for defenders or non-scoring midfielders in there.
Just goes to show that you can’t apply maths in evaluating footballers!
January 1st, 2010 @ 17:19Thomas Vermaelen has been the best transfer of the year, no doubt there. There should be a price to performance ratio. Sure, Ronaldo has helped Real but has he helped them 80 million pounds worth?
