The 2007 Player of the Year is Ronaldo, The 2007 Young Player of the Year is Ronaldo
Let me save you some trouble of voting, debating and generally wasting your time guessing who the PFA will pick as player (and young player) of the year.
Despite the fuck ups - no Michael Essien, no Frank Lampard, no Nemanja Vidic and no Ricardo Carvalho in a season all four have been far better than Cesc Fabregas or Steven Gerrard (and in the case of Vidic, better than Giggsy and Scholesy as well) - this one is a done deal.
The only real competition is between Didier Drogba (30 goals, 7 assists) and Cristiano Ronado (21 goals, 19 assists). On stats, Ronaldo wins - responsible for 40 goals vs Drogba’s 37. The fact that a winger has scored 21 (and could go on to hit 25) in a season is quite remarkable as well. Frank Lampard does it for his club on a regular basis and despite the criticism for him he has an enviable record (21 goals, 14 assists).
You have to remember that these nominations are made by footballers themselves - and as a result are not necessarily reflective of how good a player has been over the season but what their reputations are amongst players.
That’s the only reason I can think of that Vidic (United’s second best player after Ronaldo this season) and Lampard (with his goals and assists) is out of the reckoning, and Gerrard and Fabregas get picked instead.
Anyhow, back to the done deal - Ronaldo will win the Young Player of the Year, Drogba will win the 2007 Player of the Year.
It’s also possible that Ronaldo wins both, which for him would be true redemption and a full circle after the events of the 2006 World Cup.
Wayne Rooney is the only other reasonable candidate for the young player of the year (19 goals, 12 assists), but he wasn’t the best young player. Ronaldo was. Just as Drogba is not the best player of 2007. Ronaldo is.

Not to rain on Ronaldo’s parade but how many of those goals have been penalties? I’m pretty sure more then 3 so statisticly wise, Drogba would triumph over Ronaldo.

Another fuck up is carragher not being on that list. He has been by far our best, most consistant player this season. Will he ever recieve any recognition for his talents. For what its worth (and it pains me to admit this), ronaldo should win player of the year. But i think that aaron Lenon should win the ypung player of the year.

Ronaldo has saved Man Utd in a few games this season, Drogba Chelsea has maybe twice! my money is on Ron for the player of the year and Rooney for young player, but you’re right, Ronnie should win both!
The form of Cristiano and Didier in the last few games of the season will determine the victor especially since Man Utd and Chelsea will be playing each other in the FA Cup final, the next to last game of the Premiership and even possibly the Champion’s League Final…

Not going to happen Jade. The votes were given by the player by Jan!!! Yeah, that was when the voting slips were distributed to them… How well did Drogba play after Jan? Pretty well yeah, but not half as good as his performances in the first half of the season.
Ahmed Bilal should know that players are not allowed to vote for the same player in the two categories (PFA Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year). He might be nominated for both, but Ronaldo won’t win both.
Its all gonna be about Droggie and Ronnie… no chance whatsoever for otherss…..!

I really want Aaron Lennon to win;looks really amazing when he plays,he’s a very excelent player.Although Ronaldo although catches the audience’s eye he’s great competition 4 Lennon.At Aaron Lennon’s age he’s preforming remarkably and I admire him for that.Rooney,Gerrade,Fabregas are also great play.What a competition, I can’t wait to see who the winner is.

i think ronaldo should still be consider the world footballer of the year because our ronldinho is not in good shape and kaka the brazilian who is in good shape is not playing the same partern with him
i would just like to add that ronaldo is not a big game player and wont win player of world. it came down to champions league semi with kaka vs ronaldo and it showed that ronaldo didnt have what it took…..yet to be the best in the world. kaka is in the best form of his life and wont improve only decrease in form from here on in, on the other hand ronaldo will only get better. so for player of world its kaka but who will be the better player is Ronaldo

Ronaldo?! Are you crazy… or just English?! It’s probably the second one. You don’t pay attention to other championships, do you? Have you seen Messi (AKA Messidona) play? He is faster, better with the ball , younger and a lot less selfish on the field! I’m Portuguese and even I can see that Messi is the best player in the world! He won’t win this year, of course. Because he spent a lot of time injured during 2007. But c’mon: be real!! Take a look at Mionel Messi… you can bet your ass he’ll get the award in 2008! That is, if no too bit player brakes his leg…
There was a mistake there: it’s Lionel (instead of “Mionel”) Sorry ’bout that one. Don’t get me wrong, Ronaldo is very good, but he still needs to grow up a bit as a team player. You don’t agree? Take a good look at the Portuguese National Team. Did we win anything with Ronaldo on the team? No! Not even against Armenia or Finland, for Christ sake!!! Because he’s not that smart on the field. Nevertheless, he’s still very good… but Messi, on the other hand, is a lot more dangerous to the defenders. He’s the Devil in person!!! No player can stop him twice on a row.
Actually the P.O.Y. was just voted and its kaka , Cristiano ronaldo , and messi ( kaka in 1st) and you didnt consider the fact that kaka led AC Milan to win the champions league and was the top scorer during then. All the other players you said didnt score highly at all except Drogba who was made 4th.
