Still waiting on Tevez

Carlos Tevez

Update 3 - Tevez ‘agrees’ terms with Manchester United.

Update 2 - SkySports: Tevez to seal United loan.

Update - Manutd.com: Reds announce Tevez capture.

It’s over a day since the Tevez to Manchester United merry-go-round started, and so far all major news portals have confirmed that a move is imminent.

Apparently Tevez has said something on TV during one of his interviews while in Argentina - haven’t been digging too deep into this as I’m trying to let this play itself out without getting too excited :) Mind you though, the way the whole press has jumped on this is exactly how the Henry and Torres transfers happened this summer.

If everyone’s saying it, it’s not necessarily true, but there must be something there worth talking about.

People were saying yesterday that the PL will put a stop to this move - I think United have already cleared this unofficially with the PL and have probably dealt with West Ham and Kia as well (assuming all this is true, of course).

So let’s give this a rest, he’s probably coming to Manchester United, we’ll find out soon enough.

To be honest, Manchester United with Tevez really does turn me on.

And yes, I know what the headline sounds like :)

Update: BBC confirms….around 8 hours after SL told you so :P

Let me just get the disclaimers out of the way:

This report is in no way confirmed by either Carlos Tevez or Manchester United, and at the moment is ‘reported’ by the Evening Standard and Times Online as being leaked by a ’source close to the Argentina squad’ playing in the Copa America. It’s probably from the South American press, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Having said that though:

Carlos Tevez moving to Manchester United will trump Torres to Liverpool, will trump Henry to Barcelona and will, for United, trump Anderson and Nani’s move to Old Trafford.

Am I too worked up? Probably. It’s 6:30 am as I write this and Red Ranter (the bastard) just pointed me to the news. It’s the best news I’ve heard since Manchester United signed Nani and Anderson, it tastes better than the Prem (which to be honest was hollow after losing out in the CL) and for the United fans among you, this is something that I have been rooting for a loooong time.

Here’s what the two sources are saying:

Times Online:

Manchester United last night appeared to have won the race to sign Carlos Tévez. The West Ham United forward, who is playing in the Copa America in Venezuela, has told his Argentina teammates that a deal has been agreed for him to play at Old Trafford next season.

It is likely that Tévez will move to United initially on a 12-month loan deal, with a fee of about £4 million payable to Kia Joorabchian, the businessman who owns the economic rights to the player, and wages in excess of £3 million. Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, would also want the option of making the move permanent at the end of next season.

and…

This Is London:

Carlos Tevez last night agreed to join Manchester United in a permanent deal worth more than £20million.

The move will be completed next week, subject to any challenge from West Ham, who still claim to own the registration of the player who saved them from relegation last season.

See what I mean about not taking this too seriously?

Oh hell, enjoy it while it lasts :)

  1. Tevez will be a great signing for ManUtd! Let this news be true! We’ll rule in Europe too next season!

  2. July 5, 2007Gavin Cape Town

Im just as excited it will be amazing and dont think we need anything more.

  3. all i can say is i hope its true

  4. I really hope this is true, if it is then Manchester United will be a force to be reckoned with this season!!

  5. please god, let him come, bless mine and my fellow united supporters heart with tevez.

if this is true we can say hello to the treble and possibly-the quadruple

  6. This will suck, tevez is selfish although one of my fav players,i just can see man U a team that works well as a group have someone that is very selfish.

  7. July 5, 2007Brian Lomax

I’m skeptical. Its only 2:15 in America right now, so we’ll see a little later this morning. However, 3 things came to mind as soon as i read this…

    1. Good-Bye Alan Smith. You’ll be missed if this is true, we’ll miss that heart and determination which is worth far more than any goals he could produce.

    2. Gabriel Heinze will most likely stay, since he and Tevez are best friends.

    3. Where does this leave Rossi? Loaned out again? Sold?

  8. July 5, 2007cbbennett

It would be big news. I’ve been a Tevez admirer since the 2006 World Cup. After showing his perseverance at West Ham, I thought even more highly of him.

Nevertheless, I wonder if he’s the right type of striker for Man U. With Cronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Rooney, Giggsy, et al creating opportunities, Man U need a finisher–a young Ruud.

I think Huntelaar is the ideal fit, whereas Tevez might slow the flow of play. Huntelaar would be cheaper. He’s proven himself domestically and in Europe. Why take a chance with so much money on a player who might not fit the system?

  9. The reason why United didnt go for tevez and mescherano in the first place last season was because of the legal mess they bring along with them. If west ham claim they still own his registration and kia says the same, it shows nothing has been sorted out. And as good as tevez to united sounds, the club didnt go for him the first time and i dont think they will go for him this time around either. I dont think they want a long legal saga like west ham and until this whole mess is sorted out i dont think any deal will get done.

  10. Yay - IF true.

Tevez is the inspirational Cantona-esque player to build a team around. I thought it could have been Rooney but he is still too young.

  11. Brian - Rossi will stay.

Karl - where are you mate :)

  13. July 5, 2007Samphraim

Finally we are about to sign a decent free kick taker. Last season CR didn’t do much on that

  14. I hope this si treu Ahmed! I really do…… Tevez is a great player, great mentality and well, he’s an Argie so hopefully his signing can convince Heinze to stay! I can’t wait to see him wearing the Man Utd shirt, AGAIN! Because we all know that 2 years ago he was fined by the Corinthians for wearing a Man Utd shirt to a press conference, so he definately likes us!

  15. Samphraim - thats a good point, I never thought about that, Ronaldo really is horrendous at taking free kicks at important times, Tevez makes it look so easy, similar to the way Becks used to do it!

  16. Interesting, Tevez. Thought Inter had him, but what a coup. Forget Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham, if we’d bought Tevez, we’ve got the best deal this summer. We bought more than just a talent, we bought determination, willpower and most importantly a HUGE matchwinner. I’d like to see AC milan come up against us again next season.

  17. hey im confuse! is he on loan or sold to man u???

  18. July 5, 2007Daniel Bisong / Cameroon

That is a good signing. We wanted a tough trench digger in the team and we have found one. However, we have to do some panel beating at the defence. I don’t trust those back pass specialists who occasionally end up with own goals. The upcoming season is not open for self-inflicted draws or defeats.

  19. One quick thought. The signing of Tevez will mean we will have 4 non-EU players (Heinze, Anderson, and Park being the other three). Is there any rules associated with this??

  20. OH … MY … GOD !!!

I came to work late today (had to take my dog to the vet) and now it seems like anarchy…. What happened???

I hope this is not someones sick joke!!!
    Please let this be real?!?!?!?!

This was my comment on RedRant earlier.

    Ahmed, I know I’m too young, but I think I’m getting a heart-seizure!!! :-)

I just soooo hope that this comes true…

I don’t think I will be able to wait for a couple of days to get confirmation. My system’s already going into over-drive

  21. This is like a dream come true. I’m just sceptical about getting too excited, too soon…
If Tevez comes (and Rossi stays)… I will go to church every Sunday :-)

  22. karl - no, don’t make promises with the devil just yet :)

Seeing how the Henry and Torres moves panned out ‘just like this’, I wouldn’t be too surprised if this went through.

Celebrate while you can :) We can save the scouse-bashing for after the confirmation.

  23. hav we actuali signed or is this all speculation anywayz hopin and prayin dt this is tru

  24. ahmed dnt dis other people religiouns keep ur self to ur self how dare say dt man get sum self respect

  25. Shera - reports say that we’re close to a deal.

And point taken, although for future reference you might want to think twice before commenting on a conversation between two people you don’t know :)

  26. I don’t know what to say… I’m really speechless.

Maybe SAF read some of your articles?

For all I care, the scousers can sign Torres, Kaka, Ronaldinho, and the rest of Spain…if we this Tevez thing is true, its not going to help them :-)

  27. Meanwhile, back on earth…
How do you guys suppose this will affect the Heinze rumours?

  28. Yea, managers have been known to drop by SL now and then :P

I remember saying somewhere that if United Tevez, the whole world could put together their best players and we’d still beat em.

I guess this is how Tottenham feel when they signed Bent :P

  29. dunno - i figure they’ll be played up more.

Saha and Smith will be raked across the transfer coals until one or both are sold.

  30. why does this trump the other signings? euphoric man utd fans entertain me.lol.

  31. Not to bash Tottenham, but that is really funny :-)

Regarding Heinze, Tevez still cannot speak English, so I guess it will make sense to keep Heinze…shit any excuse to keep Heinze will do for me.

  32. simmy - If you knew what United are building and how Tevez is expected to fit into the puzzle, trust me, you would know the answer to your question.

  33. or if he was as delirious as we were, then he’d get it.

we’ve been waiting for tevez for over a month now. more, probably.

  34. July 5, 2007Fifth Column

“Tevez is very selfish”… excellent, another comment from a London Red who has never watched a live match in his life.

He is the antithesis of a “selfish” player.

Good luck Carlos if you go.

As for his registration - there is no argument. West Ham ‘own’ his registration. The argument is over who owns his ‘economic rights’ i.e. who gets the money. West Ham have the final say on whether he stays or goes… but if Joorbachian wants him to leave and West Ham say “no” then it could go to court.

This one will run and run.

  35. Actually Ahmed, technically, over a year…

  36. I can’t work out a formation, heres what i think:

    VDS
    GNEV RIO VIDIC EVRA/HEINZE
    CARRICK OWEN
    NANI RONALDO
    ANDERSON
    ROONEY

Do you have any ideas Ahmead? anyone??????????

  37. Fifht Column..
My understanding was that Kia decides where Tevez go. Should he leave the club, Kia just need to pay the club 2mil.
    Is this not correct?

  38. The preferred formation will now be 4-3-3

  39. Its a pity Tevez can’t decide himself! He’s actually a Man Utd supporter you know! can someone please show how they think were gonna line up next season?

Where does Anderson prefer to play?
Will Tevez be a striker or a winger?

  40. What was no.24 and 25 on about????
    What a tit!

  41. July 5, 2007arsenal fan

good signing for man u, although they need another van nistelrooy, not a rooney. after this they will have spent about 80 million pounds in one summer, adding to there unusually large debt. As i dont expect chelsea to have the injury problems of last year, they will again win 90% of games through the boring, win at all costs, way they play. Man u dont have a defence half as reliable as a chelsea defence with cech and terry involved. I think man u will score many more goals but the same robotic way chelsea play should see them through.and if they dont get to the semis of the CL it could be a financial disaster for man u.

ps. tevez at 20m+ not as good as henry 16m, no matter what their ages. Henry gets lots more goals as well more assists. also, thierry was injured for over half of the games last season and managed to score 10 in 17( would have won golden boot if fit all way through the season), more than tevez who played in about 10 more games .- a totally proven henry is better than a still unsure tevez. its not bitterness because tevez is good, but if henry has a 4 year contract i expect him to score more and have more assists than tevez would have in 8 years

  42. July 5, 2007Fifth Column

    Karl

The OFFICIAL position is that West Ham tore up the elements of the contract in relation to Kia having any say over transfer of Tevez after the initial arbitration.

i.e. he is now on a 4 year deal with West Ham and all monies will come to West Ham… Kia confirmed to the Prem League he had received this correspondence from West Ham but never confirmed his agreement to it either way (as a way to get the Prem League to allow Tevez to play in last 3 matches of season).

What this means is that OFFICIALLY Tevez is on a normal contract and West Ham have 100% rights to him.

Yet, Joorbachian is not going to allow his asset leave his possession and is still acting as if there was no change in the original contractual agreement.

The £2 million thing was just a rumour of a gentleman’s agreement between Eggy and Joorbachian. No-one knows the truth.

His registration has ALWAYS been with West Ham because you can’t be registered with an agent. So, whatever happens, West Ham have to physically sign off his registration. If Eggy insists he wants to keep Tevez or that West Ham will be keeping all the money from his sale then there will be a big court case.

Unlikely to happen though (the court case) as it’s not in the interests of West Ham or Joorbahian.

  43. IMHO,
    If Tevez comes:

I think we’ll see a lot more rotation

Main 433 will be (midfield, attack)

    Hargreaves
    Carrick Scholes
    Tevez Ronaldo
    Rooney

Tevez will also be used to rotate with Rooney, Nani with Ronaldo, Anderson with Scholes.
Also, the main aim of this years transfers are for
    1) longetivity
    2) strenght in depth - that we so lacked last year
    3) mobility to swop formations
I think Smith is also crucial

  44. formation didn’t quite display as I typed it (with thespaces, etc)

  45. Thanks Fifht Column, this thing sounds complicated. I’m actually surprised SAF is getting involved in this.

  46. July 5, 2007arsenal fan

is 25. saying that belonging to liverpool is the same as belonging to eg. Judaism? calling someone scouse is not racist. also, there is no need to write an email like a text message.

  47. FC - two things.

    1) Tevez, if he wants to leave, will leave.

    2) As you said, making a big fuss is not in anyone’s favor, and if the story has gone this far then we have to assume that West Ham are ok with it.

  48. July 5, 2007arsenal fan

is 25. saying that belonging to liverpool is like belonging to eg. Judaism? calling someone scouse is not racist. also, there is no need to write an email like a text message.

  49. Tevez is good, for once since Beckham we will be getting a good freekick taker, has a good eye for goal and really smart with good vision! i really would like to see alan smith stay though…
And how the hell can anyone say that he’s selfish!! the guy is everything but selfish..
Its gonna be really interesting to see how ferguson picks his team next season..

  50. Torres seems a much better player than Tevez im afraid.

  51. The main thing about Tevez is, he’s a lethal finisher as well (something our beloved Rooney is not unfortunately).

  52. […] of Torres, and as a United fan, this signing actually worried me a bit (until I found out that United were wrapping up Tevez, that […]

  53. July 5, 2007Matthew N. Gravis

    Well.. well… well…
IF he comes, he’s more than welcome. A really good player adding lots of quality to the team. Tevez is quick, agile, smart in the box and a good finisher. The overall quality of our attack would get a major boost.

Now, I wouldn’t consider myself a sceptic in this matter, but I fear that we would become a bit predictable in our attacks. United are absolutely lethal on the counterattack, and pace is a major fact of our game. However, if a team decides to meet us on their own half by defending their box, it would remove our the spaces our attackers need, forcing us to pump in crosses into the middle.

I’d prefer a more aerial threat, and more of a poacher than Tevez. Now, with Ronaldo, Anderson, Rooney and Tevez all outrageously skilled, one could debate that we should be able to break down such opposition on pure class and individual skills. Granted, my concern doesn’t go THAT deep. I’d be overjoyed if this deal goes through. Both for United and Tevez (being a United-fan…).

I’d actually go so far as saying that we should keep Heinze, just because of his friendship with Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo.

We really needed these news, just to forget those horrible images of Torres in a Liverpool shirt.

  54. thats just it, how will he fit into the “puzzle”. This could bring total spending to 50million pounds. beware of spending like chelsea and not having anything to show for it.

  55. We’ll have Tevez to show for it :-)

  56. July 5, 2007Matthew N. Gravis

    @ 10 - Paul Freeman:
That’s blasphemy! He’s not even close to Cantona.

  57. July 5, 2007CollyBoy

Hmmm….I’m struggling to see how United are going to line out this season. £20 mill players don’t like sitting on the bench (Chelski money-grabbers excluded).

I think it will be variations of this core team/formation.

    Van Der Saar
    Neville - Ferdinand - Vidic - Heinze
    Ronaldo - Hargreaves - Scholes - Giggs
    Rooney
    Tevez

For Europe I think Carrick will slot into midfield with Rooney dropping back at the expense of Giggs.

That leaves the two new wonder-kids on the bench for most of the season, they’re not going to oust Giggs just yet and certainly not Scholes. Here’s to hoping they’re patient, along with a rash of our other top-class players!

  58. ARSENAL FAN: get a grip mate, Henry’s gone so stop going on about how good he is. And no, it was not a better deal, Tevez has 10 years left, Henry will be luckey to get three, and he probaly won’t be playing so much either. Better deal? Ive never heard something so stupid, you really have sunk a level, what are you trying to prove! I don’t care what you think anyway, Arsenal are nothing, nada , squit diddly not gonna qualify for CL next year, and you know it! I can’t wait til Arsene and Fab go! then you’ll come out with, Arsene’s better than Fergie! Fabs better than blah blah pathetic!

  59. I agree Alex, gooners are going down. They need to move past Henry. I can’t wait til Arsene goes. he DESERVES better. Arsenal are a really selfish club, make money make money make money. Man Utd are in ‘huge debt’ apparently yet we stll spend all this money on the team for the fans and the entertainment and cos we want to win. Arsenal got a new stadium which they will struggle to fill now Henry’s gone, 5 years time and they’ll be fighting for relegation.

  60. ohh please for good lordy sake, why on earth do we need him!!

We already have the best supporting striker in the world , why add the second best on the same position

    @Ahmed Bilal

Please do come up with an article on a possible team formation with Tavez in the current united squad.
And lets see how effective it looks, in terms of what our opponents can throw in defense.
And putting up Tavez upfront with rooney in support or vice versa would actually make mighty sense

  61. CARLOS DISMISSES LINK!!!!!!!

AS USUAL AHMED YOU JUMP ON THE BAND WAGON AND GET OUR HOPES UP! THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. fORMATION WILL BE LIKE A 4-2-3-1

    vds
    gnev rio vidic evra
    carrick owen
    nani anderson ronaldo
    rooney

The Tevez link has been dismissed and seems unlikely its all hype hype usshhhhaaaaa!!!

  63. guys check out this link

    http://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=122668

might not mean anything but it might mean something

  64. Matthew N. Gravis: Not so, I said “esque” which means like Cantona. There will be as great as Cantona, just as there was no one as great as Best … Edwards and so on.

That link reads like the usual “I’m not saying anything either way” so the deal is still on/off behind the scenes — “As far as I am aware I have not received any official offers,” which can still be read in many ways positively a) he has had an “unofficial” offer and will take it b) his agent has had the official offer and is letting him deal etc and so on :)

Regarding formations: obviously they can’t all play at once, but nani and anderson fill the need for long term replacements for Scholes and Giggs. They probably won’t start too often this season. Tevez on the other hand is an instant 1st Choice replacement for Saha and it will be 2 from Saha-Tevez-Rooney up front in the rotation system (prob with saha on the bench the most)

Of course, all complete speculation as there is no deal yet.

  65. July 5, 2007Matthew N. Gravis

Paul Freeman: OK, but I still don’t think Tevez is even remotely Cantona’esque in the way he plays. He does not have “the aura” or same style of play. And he’s hardly the main man to build a team around. Rooney IS that player, but he’s still a rough diamond. Tevez isn’t exactly old either; 05/02/84? A great aquisition no doubt, but he doesn’t have the towering mould of a legend. Don’t get me wrong, Tevez is a top quality player, but Rooney oozes class.

  66. July 5, 2007Fifth Column

That quote about Tevez dismisses the link to Man Utd… it is reported by Bloomberg agency today… but I think it is just Bloomberg repeating an identical quote from about 2 weeks ago… unless he has said the same thing again - has anyone actually seen an interview on TV with him saying that? Otherwise it’s more likely to be a news agency trying to create a “scoop” which is actually old news.

  67. As a Chelsea fan, I am not at all concerned until I hear something more credible than the words “according to reports…”

  68. July 5, 2007Fifth Column

    Ahmed (48)

There is absolutely no reason to assume West Ham are OK with it. If Kia and Eggy are in dispute Kia may well be hawking him around telling Clubs that West Ham are an irrelevance but when it comes to signing over his registration it could hit a major stumbling block.

He is very likely to leave - and probably to the Mancs - but you have no basis to assume that West Ham are OK with this at all.

  69. Whatever it is, all this reports and stuff will come clean in the next few days or weeks. I surely hope tevez will come to Man u as he’s a top quality player. This coming season will be the most exciting season to date. With clubs like spurs and newcastle continuing to spend too, we are in for a treat. =)

  70. About Tevez, he played down rumours that he is joining Man Utd, and that he recieved no official offers. (from SportingLife)

  71. This is really great 4 Manu. This link will give u the detailed story.cheak it out! :P
    http://www.espnstar.com/epl/epl_newsdetail_6336633.html

  72. IM 100% SURE HE WANTS MAN UTD, BUT HE SOLD HIMSELF OUT SO HE CAN’T CHOOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. If he joins, I think ‘Carlitos’ will be supplied by Wayne, who has missed setting up goals for RVN this past season. To those saying that Tevez cannot finish, you should probably watch a player before you comment on him. Although he is no Crespo, he can definetly be a box-poacher (even though that would be a waste of his talent)

oh and 68. there is no reason west ham would stand in Tevez’ way if he wants to leave… he arrived on a free transfer and kept them up single-handedly. They owe the world to him, or at leat millions pounds :)

  74. 71. he said the exact same thing a few weeks back, literally the exact same thing. my guess is that they used the qoutes over again (notice that neither BBC, Sky, ESPN or other ‘reliable’ news sources said anything about this quote).

  75. Agree with Andrei there. If Tevez wants to leave no one can stop him from doing that. And he single-handedly hands west ham survival means they wouldn’t stand in the way of a player that goes through all the criticism when he was having a bad patch with west ham and then bring them up on the brink of relegation. For some reasons, i know he will come to Man u.

  76. July 5, 2007arsenal fan

ALEX, what i tried to imply is tevez is still unproven over a whole season ( along with saying how good henry was), i am sure that if before march you asked all of man u’s fans if they wanted 20million to be spent on tevez, 90% would have said no. to be honest i dont hate man utd, i want them to win the prem over chelsea.

However, you have really annoyed me. as i said, Chelsea will win the premiership, MAn u will finish 2nd and not win the CL, and Arsenal’s policy of paying little for good young players will start to pay off.ALSO, REMEMBER LAST SEASON WHEN WITHOUT HENRY ARSENAL WALKED ALL OVER MAN U IN THEIR OWN BACK YARD? SO WHY ARE YOU LOSING TO “SQUIT DIDDLY” TEAM TWICE IN A SEASON? Fab has an 8 year contract

  77. Not sure Tevez is what we need. No doubting he is a good player - but he’s very similar to rooney. What we need is a younger version of ole.

Two questions for Sir Alex. Yes, I am sure Sir Alex would love to have him but is Tevez worth that much money? He was instrumental in saving West Ham from relegation but is it enough to see a 400% appreciation in his valuation with just one season. How about waiting a couple of seasons more for a more realistic valuation?

A similar case could be made for Benni McCarthy. A 20 goal striker in his first season at Blackburn and he too should be a 20m pound range striker. In his case this would be a 1000% jump in worth. Similarly, Dimitar Berbatov and Obafemi Martins, if we were to apply the same yardstick also did as much for their clubs to warrant a 20m pound valuation.

The second question for Sir Alex. Where is Tevez to fit into the Man Utd attack? At 20m pounds, Tevez and the club don’t expect him to sit on the bench and become a super sub a la Solskjaer who is due to retire in 2008. Rooney will be in a lock in a 4-5-1 system if Sir Alex were to play both Carrick and Hargreaves. In a 4-4-2, Tevez will be part of a rotation last season saw Rooney, Smith, Larsson, Saha, Eagles, and Solsjkaer. Plus, is the club going to jettison Alan Smith or Louis Saha? Saha says that he is ready for first squad duty after his knee surgery and the way he began last season it appeared he was to be RVN’s heir apparent before injuries slowed him down. Giuseppe Rossi has indicated that he sees himself in the first squad after his loan at Parma. His performances have been quite noteworthy also. Nani and Anderson, the summer’s expensive signings would like to see sometime off the bench and become part of the rotation. If Tevez were to be signed then it would open up even more questions for the Man U attack.

  78. well, this one is gathering more and more attention. apparently the FA has responded to the rumours (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=475419&CPID=8&clid=1&lid=&title=League+may+block+Tevez+move) but that can be a bad thing because his agent might prefer to keep him there until his contract expires…

  79. FA hasn’t said anything apart from confirming that the deal will go through West Ham.

Mind you, their rules are fucked up - double standards because their panties are in a bunch over non-club ownership of players.

    Fuckin politics.

rant aside, Tevez situation looks a lot like the Henry and Torres situation, so I’d say it’s worth waiting this out.

mind you, the peeps at kumb.com can be biased arseholes at times, like all fans, so i’m not surprised that they jumped at the news saying that tevez is flattered by the interest but has had no direct contact.

that’s like henry saying that he’s an arsenal player, for now.

make of it what you will, i’m waiting and watching.

  80. glory glory to manu!
    We shall rule Europe

  81. I think the only thing manu need is a goaly, Edwin van der Sar but he is getting old and so manu need to find some capable person to replace him.Foster and Kuszczak are great but they are 2nd choice goalkeepers.

  82. July 6, 2007Priyadarshan

If Tevez indeed moves to manchester united then the premierleague,fa cup, league cup and europrean cup competitions in coming season are already over. Its only a matter of how united wins and how many goals they will score

  83. Whoa Priyadarshan. Thats quite an assertion there. I remember at the beginning of last season when someone said exactly the same thing after chelski signed scheva. They said “all cups are ours”. Whilst this signing will make man utd a force to be reckoned with, bear in mind other teams in europe arent just sitting on their asses. they are also making signings. Inter and AC have been making interesting moves although not as high profile but interesting nonetheless.

  84. I strongly disagree with such claims, mind you.
  85. You might like this recent quote from the Daily Mail …

“For me, Manchester United will be a sensational destination and to be a member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad will be absolutely spectacular,”.

“My dream is to be an idol in English football and I can achieve this now.

“I am a player who thrives on challenges. I went to England to triumph in the Premiership and with West Ham I have achieved that first stage.

“Now I’m ready to move on to the next stage.”

Should, as expected, United seal Tevez’s signing, then

  86. I also strongly disagree with such claims.
With Tevez in our squad, we’ll have more consitency (same with Nani/Anderson). Last season, we felt uncomfortable without the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo and Scholes. These acquisitions should address those problems. (so what if some say he is similiar to Rooney - is that a bad thing?)
The main reason we failed against Milan was becuase of player fatigue. I think SAF is attempting to really have a go at the CL.
If you think about it logically, it makes sense… last year the aim was to get the title back from Chelsea (our team was capable, but we needed that bit extra…ala Carrick). This time, the focus is clearly on CL. I have a suspicion SAF is going to retire after this.

  87. Phobos, I suggest you never again quote the daily mail (the amount of bullshit they can fabricate beats everyone - The Sun included). Sorry. but that is quite all right for now since BBC and Sky picked up on it (not the most reliable sources, but the best we have)…

I agree with 87. fergie is going to leave Querioz a dream team when he goes out next season. But I would like the Premiership again in favour of the CL. wouldn’t you?

Priyadarshan, dont say that again, you sound like the chelsea fans man. and also you might not want to tempt fate;).

Also I have a feeling that this is the most man utd have spent in a single summer. can anyone confirm that?

  88. To be honest… I want both. The CL will be one step further to kicking “5x” off their fucking perch once and for all.

  89. well dont we all, but i mean if you had to pick which one will it be? remember were just two short of the scousers on league titles… and being realistic, if man utd were to win the CL 3 times before liverpool won it again, we would need a miracle

  90. July 6, 2007Lee Pownall

I think Tevez and Rooney are similar players, both come deep and like to run at players. It could cause a bit of a clash!

  91. Andrei - its really a tough one.

  92. July 6, 2007Kolosafro

I dont see how this would work, but to be fair if it does, you may as well just hang on to the trophy, rather you win it if we dont, anyone but the Fulham Rent Boys.

  93. I saw this coming when i heard he was hanging out with united guyz celebrating their premiership victory

  94. This is really amazin!!!!! :-)
    Hope this is true!! :P

  95. Even if Carlos Tevez comes to Manu,Liverpool will always be better than them.Next season with Torres and Gerrard,we are unstopable.

    Maybe…just maybe…

I hope Argentina gets knocked out of the Copa asap, just so that we can get finalisation on this deal :-)

  97. Hey julien - what about the rest of your team? Aren’t they any good? :-)

  98. Well, now it’s seems like tevez is really coming to man u. People may say he seems a similar type of player to rooney. I look at it differently, if rooney and tevez plays together, they can exchange position through out the game, which will make the defenders harder to mark them. remember the man u vs roma match? when man u play rooney giggs and ronaldo behind alan smith and looks what happened. rooney giggs and ronaldo exchange position almost through the whole game and won 7-1. We shall see when the season starts. glory MAN UTD!

    @ Paddy (78):

Top post! My thoughts exactly. I think Berbatov, McCarthy, Huntelaar and even Afonso Alves could prove to be better signings in terms of goals vs price ratio. But hey, if he comes - I’d still consider it a fantastic signing. Because his talent is unquestionable.

  100. I’ve got a little enquiry, hope I get some replies: is there a single person in the entire world who didn’t know that Tevez and Mascherano signed for West Ham only so they could be in the “window” for big money clubs? I’m asking this because I knew that the very moment it was announced they signed. Nevermind that Joorbachian crap now, it’s about players signing for clubs they have no ambitions playing for. Why do you think Mascherano was crap at West Ham?

  101. I think people really forget that under alan padrew, tevez and mascherano had little playing time. That led to mascherano moving to liverpool. Only when curbishly told over at the helm did we start seeing more of tevez. While players like Berbatov, McCarthy got more time to settle in, and Huntelaar and Alves are already settled in their respective clubs. So where are the comparisons coming from. Why don’t you guys compare tevez record at Boca and Corinthians. With so little time to impress at west ham, he still manage to help them stay up, when everyone(includes me) thought they’ve no chance doing so when they went 9 games w/o winning. So now let’s us give credit where it’s due. Sorry for the lengthy comment.

  102. July 6, 2007nortonlees

So, you might not get Tevez because the Premier League are scared of where you’re money goes…how does it feel to get wrapped up in their pretty little mess?

  103. July 6, 2007Alexisonfire17

*BREAKING NEWS*-ACCORDING TO SKY SPORTS NEWS
They actually said Tevez HAS JOINED UNITED(I’m still taking with a pinch of salt and trying not to believe it but….WOW)
    UNBELIEVABLE….INSANE :)
Apparently it’s the two year loan deal with an option to buy. We’re paying 6 mil then 4 mil per year for his wages!

  104. its done!!! tevez is coming on 2 yr loan

  105. July 6, 2007Alexisonfire17

Supposedly he’s having a medical today at the Argentinian base!Anybody got a more solid source?Any kind of conformation?

  106. mind you though, SkySports has gotten these things wrong before.
  107. hi ahmed bk again and yes if i here any racist remarks i wil put mi foot down dusnt mata if its a joke or anytin else between to people der is no room for racism so try to keep a lok on ur mouth cus u will ofend millions l;et alone if ur jus sayin it to 1 person hope u lerned a lesson

  108. room for everyone mate, excluding obnoxious pricks (who may or may not be racist).
  109. Welcome back Shera.

I can assure you the comment that Ahmed made was not discriminatory. I didn’t take it as such. Be it as it may…

Ahmed, I hope this deal comes true. Can you imagine the derillium throughout the United world if this deal gets concluded? The fact that it is a 2-year loan…WOW!!!

  110. It looks like the delirium has set in already :P

I’m waiting for the official announcement mate - btw the PL involvement is a sham, drummed up by the media.

  111. rossi+tevez+rooney+saha..thts our strike force..and saha is oing to be the most important..he offers something the others dont..although i didnt think we need tevez for next season..its an investment for the next 6 or 7 years..roon+ron+tevez+nani+anderson+foster..they can play for another 8 or 10 years..vidic+evra+hargreaves+carrick..can play atleat for another 5 years..plus we have good young players coming through…we wont have to make another 10 million pound signing for atleast the next 5 years..and btw thts the end of the road for smudge, richardson and maybe even fletcher..

  112. Julien - i gotta laugh at liverpool fans, its always we’re unstoppable…….. we’ve got gerrard, well now its torres and gerrard, it says alot for the rest off the team lol. its always the same name brought up my liverpool fans, gerrard will dominate this, its quite laughable……. as for tevez. WOW hope its true :)

  113. Its been announced on sky sports that tevez will join on a 2 year loan and united will have the option to buy him for £15m after that. I cant wait to see fergie try and pick a first team, unforunately i think it will be a while until nani/anderson will be starters, fegie cant tell players like scholes and giggs to hit the bench after all theyve done for the team. Apparently fergie and queiroz have devised a new system, i think its likely we will play 4-2-4, but dont rule out the possibility of playing 3 at the back to accomadate the attacking players. Hargreaves will give us awesome cover but their is no need for 2 defensive midfielders and 4 defenders against poor teams so who knows! All hail the RED GALACATICOS!!!

  114. ricky - i agree. if gerrard is that good why don’t they win the league every year?

they have too much reliance on gerrard and one good player doesn’t make a good team - remember Robson for United in the 80s?

Just because they now have Torres doesn’t make much difference - okay he is better than Bellamy but he won’t make the difference like Drogba can.

  115. yeah i agree totally. fair enough as a united fan and when the talk about torres coming too us started i was very happy, and im not saying this because he signed for liverpool, but the world cup aside, he didn’t really set the spannish league alight last season, dunno if anyone agrees with that or not? im not having a dig at liverpool, its just always about gerrard.

  116. Paul, I think that Torres can be just as good as Drogba in two seasons. I think this is just sour grapes from Man Utd. we wanted Torres for so long and now hes in a ‘pool shirt. It kinda hurts, but he is still one of the best young strikers. Also is there a chance Fergie would buy Tevez to appease the fans? Last year he said that he considered Macherano, but never Tevez…

If he is trying to appease us, it is certainly working. If not then he must have a vision, because I cant see where Carlitos will fit in his tactics.

To conclude, congrats to liverpool for getting Torres, but dont expect the boy to singele-handedly change liverpool’s fortunes, its not gonna happen. Rafa wasnt joking when he said he needs 100million to challange for the title and so far hes only invested 20million…

And one more thing Julien, remember how you were going to be unstopable this past season? It seems like it is always the same for you scousers (and arsenal recently): we will win it next season. Thats what you will probably say next summer too.

  117. July 6, 2007cbbennett

I still find it interesting that Man U seems quite indifferent toward Huntelaar–a striker that is 1) younger than Tevez, 2) proven in Europe, and 3) a much more prolific goal-scorer. Not to say that Tevez won’t help Man U, but this (potential) signing resembles Chelsea of the last two seasons–buying the most expensive player regardless of whether he fits into the system.

  118. July 6, 2007arsenal fan

If, according to SKY they are getting him on a 2 year loan, then it will be a fantastic signing. I dont know how it works with tevez but waiting two years before signing him permanently should put a massive dent in transfer value. Just wish Arsenal could pull off such a deal. BRING DOWN CHELSEA!

  119. sceptic yet excited … SAF will need to be at his managerial best because i foresee potential ego clashes .. rooney and ronaldo will definitely not like to be on the bench or rotated (except for at the fag end of the season by when we would have wrapped up the premiership) .. with tevez coming in now and rossi, nani, anderson and hopefully a fit saha around lot of juggling will be required …
And then someone mentioned freekicks .. ronaldo making way for tevez (who is definitely the better of the two as far as freekicks are concerned) — hmm!! while giggs does take it at times it has been mainly ronaldo’s forte … and with success egos do tend to get bigger (dont throw names like giggs and scholes at me-they’re just about perfect club players)
and more than juggling players, me thinks SAF will be doing a lotta changes in the playing formation depending on which player is in form … not that thats not done now but still a potential hitch …
but then again one doesnt become the best manager in the biggest football league in the planet just like that .. kudos to him!! my call for the lineup
    EVDS
Neville-Ferdie-Vidic-Evra/Heinze (Sivestre (he aint going) and O’Shea and the kids as back up)
Owen-Scholes/Carrick (Fletcher and Eagles as backup)
Ronaldo-Giggs (Nani, Anderson — start with carling cup and against ‘lesser’ opponents and then take a call)
    Rooney
Teveze/Saha (Rossi - same like nani and anderson)

And i wonder - douple or triple this time .. mebbe quad!! :)

  120. Im not that fussed about torres, he only got like 14 in 35 last season and he’s their penalty taker. Hes really eratic as well, ive seen him miss sitters. Im not convinced he will have wat it takes agaisnt premiership defences. Im glad we didnt sign hunterlar cos hes a ruud clone and we mite have gone back to playing like we did 2 seasons ago. I just hope we have a clear out as well, theres no room for richardson, fletcher, silvestre any more. I would like us to loan rossi to sunderland and let him get some prem experience. Saha wont play much if we get tevez which is a shame, when he gets himself fit he is quality. We now have the best squad in europe tho! im glad im not a chelsea fan all they do is sign defensive midfielders and has beens!

  121. has anyone else just read about tht egg dude at westham saying about a transfer has not went through yet? or is it complete BS cus westham know he is on his way out?

  122. The whole situation is getting very messy.

    See http://www.whufc.com/articles/article.php?page_id=9272

  123. July 6, 2007Red Bazza

Perhaps the most exciting thing for me about Tevez’s arrial - always assuming etc., etc. - is that it would seem to minimise the prospect of Rooney busting his b*llocks as a lone striker (cf. Crap Final) even if Saha’s crocked as usual. The various comments thus far re: Tevez being too similar to Roon and us needing a proven goalscorer etc. seem wrongheaded to me. (a) a shortage of goals wasn’t exactly a problem last season - till the very end when the whole side were visibly out of their feet (no goals from open play in the last 480 minutes of the season!!). This season’s signings should at the very least ensure that key players arrive far fresher at the sharp end of the season. (b) mobility, pace and invention were the key to United’s success last season. Tevez (and Nani and Anderson, who everyone understandably seems to have forgotten about at the moment) all share an ability to link and exchange attacking play. (Meanwhile OH locks things up at the back.) I think Tevez is a great acquisition and very few defences will relish facing United this season - including Milan if there’s a rematch.

  124. You Reds are jumping the gun…

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=443890&cc=5901

  125. Why is it getting messy? Magnusson said what is always said in situations like these.

  126. I think that statement just indicates that there definitely is some movement in that area.

  127. July 7, 2007hakieran

Game, Set, Match and Championship (Wimbledon Theme), we got the premiership in the bag again. To make an additional point, because it looks like its a 2 year loan deal, we can bring in another striker with the funds we makes for the sale of certain players (we know the players that are being linked away)a out and out striker. I feel like a little kid in a candy store, lol and i dont want the spending to stop.

  128. the story keeps changing, dunt think ill be happy til i see him holding a united shirt….although i remember tht wee rat mikel holding a united top once!!!!

  129. He’s agreed terms! this is better than christmas

  130. July 7, 2007hakieran

    http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=475582&CPID=8&clid=1&lid=4161&title=TEVEZ+‘AGREES’+UNITED+DEAL

latest news his agreed terms, done deal really.

  131. Guys please keep up with the news :)

Tevez has already agreed terms with United so now we just wait for results from the medical and confirmation that the transfer has been approved by West Ham/his owner.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/6276064.stm

  132. Excerpt from the bbc news report:

The statement from Joorabchian’s lawyers read: “The circumstances surrounding Carlos Tevez’s relationship with West Ham have been well documented in the media and footballing world.

“We confirm that Carlos Tevez has, with the knowledge and permission of West Ham, been in discussions with other clubs.

“Subsequently, personal terms have now been agreed with Manchester United.

“Carlos Tevez’s representatives will work during the course of next week so that a move to Manchester United can be finalised as quickly as possible.

“The process for finalising the player’s registration with Manchester United will be undertaken in accordance with appropriate procedures.”

    Karl - time to celebrate?

  133. Here is my favorite comment about Tevez coming to United:

“However, it needs to be said - spare a thought for opposing defences next season. In Rooney & Tevez, the Red Devil’s will have the ugliest strike force in world football. Shrek 1 & Shrek 2. Perhaps Lord Ferg is trying to scare opposing defence psychologically too?”

    -Right Footer (via the Guardian)

  134. haha rylie thats kinda funny

though to be fair at leasat rooney can look fairly decent on occasion (i happen to think he’s a hell of a lot less ugly now then he was a few years ago)

but yeah…rio has nothing on tevez hahaha….hell, ronaldinio’s got nothing on tevez

  135. So, it looks like only the dodgy nature of the original transfer to West Ham may scupper the transfer now and I’m sure United can sort that out over the remaining period before the season starts.

I had 2 concerns about United last season and now they have both been addressed
    1) Long term replacements for Scholes and Giggs (addressed with Nani and Anderson)
    2) Strength in depth up front - Tevez fills this gap.

Not to mention Hargreaves being the defensive midfielder we didn’t seem to even need as the long term Keane replacement.

It’ll be a sad day when Scholes, Giggs and Neville finally hang up their boots, but unlike the Busby era Fergie is bringing in replacements.

Anyone know of a good rightback ?

  136. dani alves maybe? why should we stop at tevez!!

  137. Paul, the Brazilian twins look promising, wouldn’t you say? But I see what you mean, if Nev is not available with the current squad there is no adequate replacement. I think that this is a more urgent matter than the striker one.

Oh ya and Red Bazza, I would like to remind you that among those 480 minutes there was a defeat to West Ham (which is now paying dividents), a reserve line-up against Chelsea and the FACup final where everyone played like shit. that adds up to more than 300 minutes…

  138. Lo
