Terry to captain England against the US

Rio Ferdinand might have been backed by Owen Hargreaves to lead England in the long run. But, as Fabio Capello wants to try out various options for the England captaincy, John Terry will have the honour of leading England tomorrow against the US, BBC reports.

Apparently Terry, who was distraught after his penalty miss against Manchester United nearly a week earlier, was happy when Fabio Capello gave the Chelsea defender the news:

“He has played very well in training and when I told him he would be captain he was very, very happy.

“As a captain I think it is important to be a leader, and John Terry is a leader.” Capello told BBC

This will come as a great boost for the Chelsea and former England captain who might still lead his country for the next two years and maybe more. Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand had worn the armband in the previous two England matches under Fabio Capello.
