im english, but if its an all england team at the 2012 olympics i'll be as close to crying as ever. why cant everyone just get along with this and be proud to represent great britain, not just england...

we all know what Great Britain does to win, Divide and rule... how do we stand any chance of that when we are divided ourselves.

Havent the time to read all the posts, so if I repeat someone elses thoughts, so be it.

Im Scottish and I can believe the childish way that Scottish/Welsh and NI FAs are acting.

Some say that the Team GB could potentially threaten the independance of each nations team.

What, you mean like what happened with the British Lions...??!?!? You dont see them whinging do you.

The fact is, it doesnt matter what players get picked, which country they are from, it is based on skill level. If Welsh/Scottish/NI players arent good enough, fine, get better!!!.

Stop all the independant crap. We are Great Britain!!

Build a bridge and get over it........!

The 'Little Scotlanders,Little Irelanders and Little Walians' go on about "When England ruled us",blah blah!-Sob.
No love lost between the 'home nations then. For God's Sake let's agree to kick this political football of Gordon Brown's,with all it's 'Britishness' nonsense into touch.
I'm English and proud, sod the rest of them.
I would rather we won NO medals than had to go along with the colonial'Brit' stuff.

Look... the very guy himself that conducted the Murray interview said his report "took on a life of its own" by the rags - something for the benefit of their knuckle dragging readers.

The little Englanders hate the Irish, Scots, French, Germans, Pakistans, Aussies, Polish, etc. They go on about it all the time. Forget Team GB.

Of course their should be a team GB, its gonna look pretty damn weird if the host NATION of Britain doesn't have a national team at its own Olympics. In my mind the the current situation is like if instead of a French football team theirs were Bordeaux, Normandy and Lorraine teams! At least there is moves being made to combine the FA's and finally give Celtic and Rangers some real competition.

This article completely misses the point of the whole argument, especially the statement that the core issue isn't about football but politics...this is completely incorrect, football is at the very heart of the reason the home nations reject the idea of Team GB! The right to play football as the respective nations of Scotland, Wales N Ireland and yes...England in future competitions!

An important point the article has ignored is that Blatter and FIFA are known to want one British team to qualify for all future international competitions, as this will reduce the UK's infuence in FIFA's corridor of power. Also, Blatter has given no official assurance they will consider 2012 as a one-off.

The FA may well wish to propose an unified front, however the majority of English fans are opposed to this idea, simply because they also realise the risks involved...a fact that seems to have escaped many that have posted vitriol on this site.

Its very easy to take the anti-Team GB stance at face value, assume its typical Scottish, Welsh, N Irish behaviour towards England, post such rubbish as "F*ck their nasty Nations" and paint England as the peacekeeping innocent in all of this.

However the truth of the matter is that anyone with an ounce of knowledge about football and FIFA knows that you can't trust them as far as they can be thrown, and any precedent set in 2012 WILL be acted upon sooner rather than later.

Ironically, it may be the uncompromising stance of the home nations that may well end up saving the 'England' team from extinction in future years.

Maybe those that are pro-Team GB should be the ones to take their heads out of the sand and actually attempt to understand what's at stake here, rather than inciting division using tailored facts and posting rabid comments.

Hell no, England needs to stand alone in representation. England is represented alone when they are in the World Cup, and they need be represented as "England" in the football tourney in the 2012 games. I look forward to hopefully flying to England in four years to attend a match between England and Argentina in the games. Damn, what a game that would be on the world stage. Hopefully it will be a rematch of the World Cup Final in Johannesburg where England can beat Argentina's ass for the title.

If the English are truly English - cross of St George and all that - then they will vote against this.

It harms our own footballing history and the English team.

Let's follow the Scots, Welsh and anyone else for that matter and be proud of our country.
